Lakota/ Sioux EBook

One of the tribes of the Great Plains Indians.

DIET

The Sioux ate corn, buffalo, elk, and deer.

They prepared the food by eating it raw,

roasting it over fire, seasoning it, etc.

INTERESTING FACTS

They regularly traded with other Great Plains tribes.

For pastime, Women did quillwork, beadwork, and sewing.

Lakota originally used Dogsleds .

They farmed the corn they ate.

LOCATION

Lived in Minnesota,

Wisconsin, North

Dakota, and South

Dakota. The

Lakota tribe

traveled freely.

There was also

significant Lakota

presence in Iowa,

Nebraska, Montana,

and Northern

Illinois. Today

most Lakota live in

Minnesota.

TRANSPORTATION

The Lakota knew how to make canoes.

Originally Lakota used dogs pulling

travois(dogsleds). Once Europeans

introduced horses they became the main

source of transportation. Almost every man

knew how to ride a horse.

homelands were in what is now

Wisconsin, Minnesota, and

North and South Dakota

HOW DID THEY MOVE FROM PLACE TO PLACE?

ARTS AND CRAFTS

They were known for carvings. Many of them

made threadwork. They also made more

popular porcupine quill work. They also used

finger weaving to make rugs.

SHELTER

The Lakota lived in Teepees. They where

originally 12 feet tall.
