MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate the uniqueness which is grounded in the sacred mysteries and traditions of the Roman Catho-lic Church and in the history and lives of our individuals, families and leaders. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 8 p.m.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact Father Pat in the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month.
CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy.
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office

“LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME!”
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
REGISTRATION FOR OUR FALL CLASSES
Early registration for our Religious Education Program in the fall begins July 1st. Those
students who attended last year will receive a registration packet in the mail. Those who reg-
ister before August 31st will pay an early bird registration fee. New families who want to
register their children can come to the parish office Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. –
5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30-2:30. You can also go online to our parish website and print
out the registration forms. You must have a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate to
register them in our classes. Our Elementary Religious Education classes are on Tuesday
evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for grades 1st through 8th and are held at St. Catherine’s
School. Our Confirmation preparation classes are twice a month on Sundays from 4:00 –
5:15 p.m. and are held at St. Catherine’s Church meeting rooms. Preparation for the Sacra-
ment of Confirmation begins in the 9th grade. You will need a copy of their Baptism and
First Communion certificates. It is important that your family are registered members
of St. Catherine’s Parish. If you have any questions please call our Religious Education
Director, Gina Stewart at 494-9701 ext. 119.

We are in need of teachers and classroom aides for our Elementary Religious Education
program. If you would like to share your love for God and our faith with the children of our
parish please contact Gina at 494-9701 ext. 119. I am happy to work with you and provide
you with lessons plans and ideas for your class. It is a very joyous and rewarding ministry to
work with our children.

Annual Diocesan Ministries Celebration
The Diocesan Ministries Celebration will be held on
Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Christ
Cathedral Campus. The topic will be the future of the Dio-
cese in the context of the Strategic Plan.
The event will feature trilingual Mass in the
Cathedral, our three bishops as speakers discussing the
Strategic Plan, evangelization and faith formation.

Join a Parish Mental Health Ministry! In 2019, six parishes in the diocese will be starting or
expanding their ministry to involve laity in reaching out to one another to help in the very
common incidence of mental illness. (1 in 5 adults will meet diagnostic criteria for a mental
illness this year, such as depression or anxiety. 1 in 18 will experience a serious mental ill-
ness.)
About us: We are lay ministers who are there to be a good listener and to help each other get
to mental health resources and providers when we need it. We know there is hope for healing

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Hay quienes quieren negar los derechos de los inmigrantes latinos que llegan a los Estados Unidos
en busca de una vida mejor. Esta injusticia es extraña ya que los hispanos llegamos al territorio estadou-
nidense en 1513, 73 años antes de la llegada de los primeros anglosajones. Estos fueron Ponce de León
y compañeros quienes buscaban una mejor vida en la famosa fuente de la juventud. Eventualmente los
hispanos dejaron de buscar la ilusoria fuente y en 1565 en la fiesta de san Agustín (28 de Agosto), Pedro
Menéndez de Avilés fundó la primera ciudad en Florida.
Gracias a su santo patrón esta ciudad ha podido sobrevivir ataques de invasores británicos y piratas,
amenazas de huracanes y tempestades para convertirse en la ciudad más vieja de la Unión Americana.
¿Pero quien fue este santo? Agustín, fue un obispo africano, quien después de una vida desordenada se
convirtió en uno de los santos mas importantes de la Iglesia, gracias a las oraciones continuas de su ma-

Inscripción anticipada para nuestro programa de Educación Religiosa en el otoño comienza
el 1 de julio. Aquellos estudiantes que asistieron el año pasado recibirán un paquete de ins-
cripción por correo. Los que se inscriban antes del 31 de agosto pagarán una cuota de ins-
cripción temprana de aves. Nuevas familias que quieran inscribir a sus hijos pueden ir a la
oficina parroquial Lunes - Jueves de 9:00 am -.5:00 p.m. También puede ir en línea en nues-
tro sitio web de la parroquia e imprimir los formularios de inscripción.
Usted debe tener una copia del certificado de bautismo de su hijo para registrarlos en
