How can we use Lab Tools?

Used to see very small objects (make them

larger)

Thermometer

Used to measure the temperature

of things.

Graduated cylinder

Used to measure volume very accurately.

Measuring tape

Used to measure length or distance.

Digital balance

Used to measure weight.

Funnel

Used to pour liquids into containers with small openings or to

hold filter paper

Stop watch

Used to measure the length of

time.

Dropper

Use to drop very small amounts of

liquids.

Using your knowledge of the previous lab tools

• Identify and correctly use the lab tools to measure the following:

1) Friends height2) Amount of water in the cup3) Drop 10 drops of water4) Measure the waters temperature5) Weight your pencil case6) Measure how much time you will take to do the

above measurements.

Test tubes

Used to heat small amounts of

liquids.

Used to clean test tubes.

do not need them.

Used to hold test tubes when they

are hot.

Wide mouth container used

to move, heat or store liquids.

Spatula

Used to move small amount of solid

and powders from place to place.

Conical flask

A narrow mouthed container used to

move, heat or store substances.

Hand lens

Used to magnify small objects.
