Lab: Scientific Method – Helicopter

Problem: Does the length of the helicopter blades affect the length of flight? Hypothesis: If the blades are (shorter/longer), then the flight time with (increase/decrease). Variables: (identify each variable in your experiment)

Independent – Dependent – Controlled – Control Test –

Procedure:

1. Complete Hypothesis – circle your choice in the statement 2. Construct original helicopter A 3. Modify the length of blade on choppers B and C 4. Stand on a chair and hold the helicopter by the “T” at shoulder height. 5. Drop the helicopter and start your timer at the same time. 6. Conduct 5 trials for each chopper and average the flight times – Record in data table 7. Graph results (include title, labs, key) – this will be done on graph paper and will be taped on your OUTPUT page 8. Write your Conclusion – this will be written on your OUTPUT page under your graph

Data Table:

Hints: 60 seconds in 1 minute; Average = add all numbers divide by number of trials
