“Stir into Flame the Gift of God” The apostle Paul uses an interesting phrase in 2 Timothy 1:6: “I remind you to stir into lame the gift of God, which is in you.” What is this gift of God within us? Why do we need to stir it into lame? And how do we do that? Verse 7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and of love and of self-control.” Since this immediately follows verse 6, it’s easy to see the gift of God in us is our human spirit. “The spirit here can mean our human spirit, which is regenerated and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. To fan into lame the gift of God (v. 6) is related to how God can come into our lives through some spiritual experience and renew and guide our regenerated spirit.” Whenever we live our lives as though we truly believe in and rely on Christ, He makes his pres-ence known within our own human spirit and attitude. The precious gift of God in us is our spir-it indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This is the gift we must stir into lame.
Word for the Day “It’s one thing to profess a belief.
It’s another thing to let it transform your life.” Matthew Warner

FIRST, your offertory gift should be planned, intentional: you’ve re lected on what is a true sac-ri icial amount to give weekly, or monthly. SECOND, your offertory gift should be propor-tional. Your gift will be generous if it is a FAIR proportion. Someone who, say, makes only $100/week and gives $10/each week in the collection, is more generous than someone who makes $1000/week and gives $10 or $20 a week. THIRD, from the Bible we learn that Giving should be SACRIFICIAL, we give from the BEST we have to offer. The Old Testament concept was called “Tithing”, giving of our First Fruits of the Harvest, not the leftovers. Giving 10% or at least 5% as a goal. Requires trust & faith. FOURTH, your gift should be FREELY GIVEN, not coerced or not conditional. LASTLY, and most importantly, your gift is an “Act of Prayer, offered in Thanksgiving, coming out from a heart of gratitude. God loves a cheerful giver.

From the time we are knit together in our mothers’ wombs until we take our inal breaths, each moment of our lives is a gift from God. While every season of life brings its own challenges and trials, each season also gives us new opportunities to grow in our relationship with God. As new attacks on human life continue to emerge, we can be tempted to despair, but Christ instead of-fers us unfailing hope. The Church teaches us that “the one who has hope lives differently.” Christ’s promise of salvation does not mean that we will be spared from suffering. Rather, the promise of salva-tion ensures that even in the darkest moments of our lives, we will be given the strength to persevere. By virtue of this Christian hope, we can face any challenge or trial. When the seas of life swell and we are battered by the waves, hope allows us to remain anchored in the heart of God. May we hold fast to Christ our hope, from the beginning of life to its very end.
