Ms. DeVore:
I am forwarding a highlight of my Career Milestones, as well as additional links that may be of interest, in preparation of my interview on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011, at 9 a.m. I hope to give you more insight into my background as opposed to just a resume and a voice!
With so many indiv iduals applying for a position at Notre Dame, how can you decide who is the best candidate? If you’re seeking an indiv idual who merely performs the
work assigned, without any innovative leadership, then your search shall continue beyond me. However, if you seek a capable, creative, steadfast worker with a
dynamic outlook on life, a strong desire to succeed, and more than a decade of
customer service experience, then I am the perfect fit for the administrative assistant position.
I graduated from Georgia Southern University (May 2009) with a Bachelor of General
Studies with concentrations in Public Relations & Criminal Justice and a minor in International Studies. I maintained steady employment throughout my college career and participated in an array of extracurricular activ ities, including volunteer work and intramural flag football.
In my professional career as a publicity assistant, I have had the pleasure of working with an array of one-of-a kind personalities, including Konvict Music recording artist & star of TV One’s The Ultimate Merger, Ray Lavender, and professional athletes Gary Guyton (Patriots), Michael Johnson (Bengals), and Jimmy King (Univ. of Michigan Fab Five).
My previous employment has presented many opportunities to not only represent these superstars in the realms of public relations, but to also roll my sleeves up for their various
foundations and other philanthropic efforts. A few of these endeavors include the Gary Guyton Hinesville Youth Sports Festival, in support of the Gary Guyton Adopt-A-High
School Initiative; the Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays; and the MJ93 Foundation’s
You Can Be Successful, Too! Fundraiser & Michael Johnson Youth Football & Cheer Camp.
I would like the opportunity to apply the public relations skills I have learned towards a
position that goes back to my roots in a university setting. I am most eager to
implement my experience, expand my knowledge, and jumpstart a career as opposed to “job.” I am a team-oriented professional with a positive work ethic and a deep commitment to providing excellent results in all areas of customer service, productivity, and quality assurance. Virtually all of my employment history has required me to exercise clear, concise communication skills and to promote customer satisfaction.
I know I will make a positive contribution to your office and the University of Notre Dame, and I look forward to discussing my capabilities in more detail. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Warmest regards,
LaKesha M. Walker

In an effort to give back to the community that nurtured him, Gary Guyton, #59 linebacker for the New
England Patriots, started a weekend long camp as a way to recognize the academic and athletic
achievements of youth, while offering them a chance to train with a professional athlete. The Gar y
Guyton Hinesville Youth Sports Festival kicked off with “Friday Fun Night” where kids, parents, fans, and
sponsors mixed, mingled, got autographs and took pictures with Guyton and his NFL friends.
Additionally, there was a “Celebrity Basketball Game,” featuring Guyton, as well as other athletes and
entertainers. The “Saturday Free Youth Sports Camp” taught participants (non-contact) football and
cheerleading skills for multiple aptitude levels. The festival benefited the Gary Guyton Adopt-A-High
School Initiative, which offers academic and SAT/ACT assistance to underprivileged students.

Open to children ages 8-17, the annual Michael Johnson Youth Football and Cheer Camp offered
football and cheer clinics to hundreds of local kids. The camp benefitted Johnson's MJ93 Fund You Can
Be Successful, Too Initiative [www.mj93.org], which raises funds to reinvest in the local community
through tutoring, mentoring, scholarships, camps and other youth-focused endeavors.
Johnson, #93 defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, started the camp as a way to give back to his
beloved Selma, Alabama, by passing on his athletic skills and passion for winning to future generations,
while offering them a chance to train with a professional athlete and broadening their horizons.
