The school warmly welcomed Mr. David Munro
to the post of PT (Pupil Support) at the
beginning of the summer term. In addition to
his Guidance role, Mr. Munro will teach Chemis-
try and PSE. He is also planning to introduce a
Laboratory Science course during either next
session or the following year.
Prior to Kilchuimen Academy, Mr. Munro
taught in Millburn Academy and, before that, in
Dingwall Academy. He has also worked as a
civilian with a police scene of crime unit.
It has been a hugely busy time for Mr. Munro.
One of his first tasks was to oversee successful
completion of Int. 2 Maritime Skills folios. His
endeavours in this regard were pronounced as
no less than “legend” by Ben Armitage and
Darrin Brownlie!
Mr. Munro has also being organising S3 Work
Experience, Music and Science trips and helping
to take the new S1 pupils to Fairburn...not to
mention fishing for a part in the S5/6 Fashion
Show !
Welcome to Mr. Munro

Jubilee Garden Party…proposed visit to Telford Centre
Following the success of last November’s Buskathon to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal, Ms. Sharples again marshalled musicians to play in the Manse porch during the Garden Party held to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Miss Walker, assisted by Fay Clark and Fiona MacCormick, also ran a successful cupcake stall on the occasion. Ms. Sharples has also agreed to organise a musical visit to the Telford Centre during the summer holidays. This visit is likely to be a first template for community service to be undertaken in the autumn by the new S4 group as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

S 5/6 Induction: Fashion Show
One of the highlights of the summer term is the event organisation which is set as part of the S 5/ 6 Induction Programme. Because of the Monday Jubilee holiday this year, pupils had one day fewer to get everything in place
for a fashion show on a summer theme.
P7/S1 Induction: Fairburn
Mr Munro, Miss Stafford and senior buddies accompanied new S1 pupils on the annual Fairburn trip
which is such an important part of the getting-to-know new teachers and friends process.

Staffing News
At the OsKArs Ceremony 2012 (Style and Staff Awards) the school bade farewell to Mrs Fiona Wild who retires at the
end of this year and to Mrs Beth Law who will take up a post in Hilton Primary School in August. Hannah Smith and
Angus Blakey made the presentation to Mrs Wild, expressing the thanks of the school for her sterling contribution to
the teaching of Geography and History. Cameron Edwards and Jordan Patience made the presentation to Mrs Law,
thanking her for service to Support for Learning and French...and tea & biscuits in the Base. We wish Mrs Wild and
Mrs Law every happiness for the future.
At the beginning of this year we welcomed Miss Stafford to the PE Department. We are delighted to confirm that Miss
Stafford will be returning next year to Kilchuimen Academy on a permanent basis.
In August we will welcome Ms Mikaela Chapman to the post of PT (Support for Learning). As well as undertaking
her SfL role, it is likely that Ms Chapman will be teaching Higher Psychology. Miss Katie Mavor has been appointed
to teach History next year. Mrs Catherine MacDonald has been appointed to teach Music. We hope to have appointed
the new Geography teacher before the start of the new school year.

Golf: “Kilchuimen Open” 2012
In keeping with what is becoming a noticeable
tradition with this event, held again at a rain-
swept Torvean, details of the Leader Board
vary dramatically according to whose account
you are prepared to accept. There is also a very
interesting story about Jesse Rodgers and an
award for losing a club in knee-high nettles!
The official results are allegedly as follows:
Darrin Brownlie – Best Individual
Closest to the Pin – Mr Wilks
Longest Drive – Rhuairaidh MacDonald

The Hungry Caterpillar
“The Hungry Caterpillar”, brainchild of Miss Walker
and Miss Thomson, has been an S1 Curriculum for Excel-
lence cross-curricular project involving the MFL and HE
Departments. In MFL the pupils read the original story in
French, acquiring the requisite new vocabulary, and then
devising (using the same template) the story of the very
hungry man who turned into Santa Claus. In Home
Economics pupils created a soft toy caterpillar using Suf-
folk Puffs made from hand-batiked fabric. They also made
a caterpillar cake from iced and decorated sponge
circles. Their creative skills were further developed by
cross stitching the headings for the accompanying
illustrated story display.
