The goal of the Healthy Hospitals Safer Chemicals Challenge, Version 2, is to ensure that 30% of the annual volume of freestanding furniture and medical furnishings eliminate the intentional use of formaldehyde, per-fluorinated compounds (PFCS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), antimicrobials, and all flame retardants. Details regarding the usage of these chemicals and treatments for KI and Pallas Textiles are described below.
1. FORMALDEHYDE
Products must comply with ANSI/BIFMA Furniture Emissions Standard (M7.1/X7.1-2011 R2016), ANSI/BIFMA e3-2011 7.6.1 and 7.6.2.
2. PERFLUORINATED COMPOUNDS (PFCS)
Fabrics must not use water or stain-repellent treatments that contain perfluorinated compounds (avoid Nanotex, GreenShield, Alta, and other similar treatments).
3. POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC)
Products must not contain PVC. To avoid PVC in tables, order 74P edging (plastic) or self-edging (laminate). To avoid PVC in seating, vinyl upholstery must be avoided. Components that constitute less than 1% of the product by weight are exempt.
4. ANTIMICROBIALS
Fabrics must not be treated with an antimicrobial process (avoid BioAM Antimicrobial, Crypton, Incase, and other similar processes).
5. FLAME RETARDANTS
Products and fabrics must not use any flame retardants. Customer’s own materials must follow the same guidelines.
KI and Pallas Textiles have identified the products and fabrics listed herein that meet the Healthy Hospitals Safer Chemicals Challenge, Version 2.
Please note that this program is NOT a certification, and Practice Greenhealth does NOT verify this information.
