Intended Use

This device is intended for heating water for house-hold use. It is not intended for use with other liquidsor for commercial use.

Safety Instructions

� To avoid the risk of fatalities from electricshocks:

• Make certain that the base t with the electricalconnections never comes into contact with water! Let the base t become completely drybefore using if it has accidentally become wet.

• Only use the hot water kettle with the suppliedbase t.

• Make sure that the power cord never becomeswet or damp during operation. Lay the cord suchthat it cannot be pinched or otherwise damaged.

• Arrange for defective power plugs and/or cables to be replaced as soon as possible by aqualified technician or by our Customer ServiceDepartment to avoid the risk of injury.

• Always pull the plug out of the power socket after use. Switching off the device is not sufficientbecause the device receives power as long asthe power plug is connected to the socket.

Ensure that the appliance, the power cableand the power plug are NEVER submersed in water or other fluids.

� To prevent the risk of fire or injury:• Always heat water with a closed lid q, otherwi-

se the automatic cut-out mechanism doesn’twork. Boiling water can then spray out over theedge.

• Hot steam clouds may be released. The kettle uis also very hot during operation. Wear ovenmits.

• Make certain that the device rests firmly and ver-tically before switching it on. Boiling water cancause an unstabile kettle to fall over.

• Do not use an external timing switch or a separateremote control system to operate the appliance.

• Do not allow individuals (including children) touse the appliance whose physical, sensorial ormental abilities or lack of experience and know-ledge hinder their safe usage of it if they havenot previously been supervised or instructed in itscorrect usage.

• Tell children about the appliance and its potenti-al dangers so that they do not play with it.

Starting Up the Device

• Before starting up the device, make certain that...– the device, plug and power cable are in good

working order and...– all packaging materials have been removed

from the device. • Fill the device with water up to the MAX mark

and let it come to a full boil once as described inthe next section. Pour out this water.

Boiling Water

� Danger! Never place the electrical basenear water – life-threatening danger!

You should only heat as much water as you need directly. That helps you save electricity, water andtime:• Lift away the kettle u for filling! • Open the lid q by pressing down on the unlok-

king button w.• Hold the kettle u vertically while filling. Only

then will the level indicator i on the side correctly indicate the water volume.

Fill the kettle u...– at least to the MIN mark so that the device does

not overheat,– no higher than the MAX mark so that no boiling

water spills out.• First close the lid q...

• then place the kettle u on the base t until it sitsstraight on the base t.

• Set the desired water temperature using the temperature control y. To bring the water to a boil, you must set the temperature controller y to the MAX position.

• Now insert the power plug into the power socket and press the ON/OFF switch e downuntil it snaps in.

• The operating light r indicates that the device isnow heating up.

� Warning: Pull the power plug from thesocket before lifting the kettle u from thebase t. This prevents any water splashing out from contacting the electricalconnections in the base t, which couldcause a short circuit.

For safety reasons, the lid q should notbe opened while the water is boiling or isvery hot. Otherwise there is a risk of injury.

Temperature regulator in the boiling range• The devices switches off automatically and the

operating light r goes out as soon as the wateris at a full boil. The ON/OFF switch e springs out.

In order to keep the water warm after bringing it toa boil, set the temperature regulator y in the keepwarm range. Press the ON/OFF switch e down, until it snaps in.

Temperature regulator in the keep warm rangeThe left end of the keep warm range indicates thelower temperature. The right end of the keep warmrange indicates the higher temperature. (The waterdoes not start boiling in the keep warm range!).

• After reaching the desired temperature, the ap-pliance switches off the heating process. TheON/OFF switch e and the operating lights rremain switched on.

� Because the device is equipped with a heatmaintenance function, the device automaticallybegins reheating as soon as the water tempe-rature falls below the set temperature. The appliance heats until the desired tempera-ture is reached. Make sure that the appliancedoes not automatically switch on to the keepwarm function. Therefore, do not leave the appliance unsupervised!

• As soon as the kettle u is lifted from the base

t, the ON/OFF switch e jumps out and theoperating lights r switch off.

• In order to halt the heating process, push theON/OFF switch e up again. The operatinglight r goes out then as well.

� Avoid setting the temperature regulator y inthe transition range, as the water can start boi-ling on account of varying filling levels.

Cleaning and Care

� Danger!: Do not open any part of the housing. There are no operating elementsinside. An open housing can create the riskof a life-threatening electrical shock.

Never submerse any parts of the device inwater or other liquids! This can create therisk of a life-threatening electrical shock if residual liquid comes into contact with powered components.

Before cleaning the device, ....• First pull the power plug out of the power socket

and let the device cool completely.• Clean the exterior surfaces and the power cord

with a slighly damp cloth. Always dry the devicewell before using it again.

• Never use any cleansers, abbrasive substancesor solvents. These can damage the device.

In the event of calcium deposits• Purchase a decalcifying agent suitable for use

with food containers from a household goodsstores (e.g. coffee machine decalcifier).

• You can use a suitable product from a specialised dealer for the stainless steel container bottom.

Removing / replacing the spout screen• Open the lid q completely.• Press down on the edge of the spout screen o

from above in order to remove it toward the insi-de.

• Clean the spout screen o with a lightly moistened wash cloth.

• After cleaning, insert the spout screen o fromabove and press it firmly into place.

Storage

Let the device cool completely before storing it. • Wind the power cord around the holder on the

bottom of the device. • Store the device in a dry place.

Disposal

Do not dispose of the appliance in yournormal domestic waste. This product issubject to the European guideline2002/96/EC.

Dispose of the appliance through an approved dis-posal centre or at your community waste facility.Observe the currently applicable regulations. In case of doubt, please contact your waste disposalcentre.

Dispose of all packaging materials in an environmentally friendly manner.

Warranty & Service

The warranty for this appliance is for 3 years fromthe date of purchase. The appliance has beenmanu-factured with care and meticulously examinedbefore delivery. Please retain your receipt as proofof purchase. In the case of a warranty claim, pleasemake contact by telephone with our service depart-ment. Only in this way can a post-free despatch foryour goods be assured. The warranty covers only claims for material andmaufacturing defects, not for wearing parts or for da-mage to fragile components. This product is for priva-te use only and is not intended for commercial use. The warranty is void in the case of abusive and im-proper handling, use of force and internal tampe-ring not carried out by our authorized servicebranch.
