Introduction, Structure and Operation of KEREA

❑ KEREA is a non profit making Business Member Organization(BMO), focused to improve the business environment of the Renewable Energy sector in Kenya and in the East Africa Region

❑ It was formed in August 2002 by the Renewable Energy Technical Committee of the Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS) under section 10 of the Societies Act.

❑ KEREA’S Vision is to provide a vibrant and conducive business environment for renewable products and services in the region.

❑ KEREA’S Mission is to facilitate the growth and development of renewable energy business in Kenya.

KEREA – Parliamentary Committee Meeting

Core Activities of KEREA 2019• KEREA has hosted the KRA officials for a half day session to discuss on the misinterpretations of

the Solar import guidelines. KEREA was able to seek for guidance and support from KRA to create a Solar PV guideline which is already completed and approved by KRA and the Ministry of Energy. Our mission is to create an importation guideline for all the RE technologies.

• KEREA is also part of the Electro technical committee in KEBS. Our mandate is to create and propose standards for RE sector.

National Bioenergy Committee

• KEREA is also privileged to be part of the National Bioenergy Committee whose mandate is to create an enabling environment for the Bioenergy sector in the country.

• With this in mind KEREA has

contributed in the creation the

East African Bioenergy Strategy

which is a work in progress.

East Africa Renewable Energy Federation

• KEREA together with its partners from the East African Region formed the East Africa Renewable Energy Federation with the mandate to harmonize the East African policies and regulations to create a conducive market environment for the East African region Renewable Energy market.

• EAREF is a collaboration of the National Renewable Energy associations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

Overview of Upcoming Activities• KEREA will be hosting the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Environmental Committee

and the Trade and Industrialization Committee for a breakfast meeting to educate them on the current Kenya Solar technologies data.

• KEREA in collaboration with Bosch will be starting a plumbing academy most specifically plumbers dealing with Solar Water Heating systems with support from Strathmore University

• KEREA will be engaging more on resource mobilization campaigns to implement more RE enabling activities.

• KEREA will also be publishing the Annual Energy Digest magazine focusing on RE articles and advertisements in the course of the year

• KEREA in collaboration with Uganda National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Alliance(UNREEEA) will create a KENYA – UGANDA Solar Taxation Handbook
