You are not alone

Does UX have to be at the mercy of the development process

It wasn’t implemented to my vision

Short cuts were taken and our goals were never met

We didn’t have time to address all the issues we found in testing

Lost sight of the value to users

Shall we go on?

2

Spoilage Production that does not result in good finished products. The amount of spoilage can be considered either normal or abnormal.

Spoilage can be classified into the following categories: •Spoiled goods-goods that do not meet production standards and are either sold for their salvage value or discarded

• Defective units-goods that do not meet standards and are sold at a reduced price or reworked and sold at the regular or a reduced price

• Waste-material that is lost in the manufacturing process by shrinkage, evaporation, etc.

• Scrap- by-product of the manufacturing process that has a minor market value.

3

What if the UX and development could be more aligned in the overall product process to reduce waste and avoid spoilage.

4

Different POVUX : Create the best experience for the user

Agile : The highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software

Lean: Hypothesis and Continuous Customer Validation, Reduce waste, Empowered Product Team

5

Some patterns

•Understanding the Customer/User value is central

•Testing not only validates, but also provides insight

•Self organized teams are most effective

Managing Debt

Inventory = Ideas, Artifacts, Backlog, Hypothesis

Debt = Investment made against inventory

Waste = Debt that has no return

Spoilage = inventory that is either never delivered or delivered in a sub-standard form.
