• 2006- Proposed capital construction three years ago along Route 31 was estimated at nearly $3 million for 27 miles

• 2007- Proposed construction of fiber along Orchard Road and Randall Road as an alternate route at the same cost

• 2007- Fiber construction proposed as a long-term capital project during strategic planning

• 2008- Transportation and Public Safety Sales Tax Revenue ($100,000) budgeted to provide engineering and improve fiber infrastructure

• 2009- Investigate fiber opportunities and existing infrastructure to reduce costs and improve services

• 2009- Investigate use of KDOT Traffic Management System• 2010- Specifications and Engineering for Bid based on KDOT Traffic Management

• Capital Construction KFO - $765,880.55 (base construction)• Lease $7556 per month• 102 months or 8.5 years for 100% ROI - $770,712.00• KFO will be 1000 to 10,000 megabits• Lease will be 100 megabits (cost to increase bandwidth?)• Life of fiber is at least 20 years or more• KFO will include 7 PSAPs and other locations• KFO includes connection to Tech Park, I90, I88, NIUnet, and

others• KFO ROI should be realized in 3 to 5 years considering other

connections and potential uses• KFO is 144 count fiber with plenty of overhead capacity
