AbstractThe key requirement of the automobile and aerospace industries isthe use of lightweight materials for greater efficiency and reducedemissions. Research activities are focused on using these materialswith improved mechanical properties for lighter vehicle body andincreased safety. In recent years, materials with nanograins havegained much attention to light-weighting. Cryorolling andconstrained groove pressing (CGP) is the competent severe plasticdeformation (SPD) route to produce ultra-fine grain (UFG) sheetmetal. However, the ductility and formability of these materials isvery low. The objective of the study is to produce UFG sheetmaterials of Al alloys with high strength and improved ductility forstructural and stamping applications.

ConclusionsCryorolling and constrained groove pressing are suitabletechniques to develop ultra-fine grained sheet materials. CGPfollowed by cold rolling is an alternate route for cryorolling toproduce the high strength sheets of Al alloys with UFGstructure. Cryorolling followed by short annealing resulted inoptimal combination of strength and formability.
