INTRODUCTION
The gravity data
in this
report were obtained between
lat A8°00
1N. and
49°OOfN.,
long 117°15
fW and
119°15fW.
in Northeastern
Washington. Gravity
measurements were made at
402 stations
generally spaced
1 to
3 miles apart
along most of
the main roads
and
Jeep trails.
Most of
the stations
are bench marks
and other
points of
known elevation
established by the
U.S. Geological Survey,
U.S. Coast
and Geodetic
Survey, and
U.S. Bureau
of Reclamation.
Approximately 20
percent of
the stations
are readily
identifiable
points whose
elevations were determined
by altimetry.
A Worden gravimeter
with a
scale constant
of O.A783
mgal per
dial division
was used in
making the
measurements. All
the measurements were referred
to a b
ase station
at the
Spokane Airport established
by
Woollard (1958,
p. 535).
The data w
ere corrected
for drift,
elevation and
latitude, and
for the
effects of
terrain within 60 miles
of stations
between long 118
OO'W. and
119 OO'W.
The average
relative error
in the
Bouguer anomaly
values is
considered to b
e less
than 2 mgal
although some
values may
be in
error by as
much as
5 mgal because
of elevation
or position
inaccuracies and
terrain<f
correction mis-estimates,
