TF Mountain Eagle,
Well – my final newsletter.
It’s been a great experience to
lead and to serve the Soldiers
and Families of 277 Aviation
Support Battalion – Task
Force Mountain Eagle. I
thank each and every one of
you for your support.
The strength of an organi-
zation is it’s people and we
are strong. Not only do we
have the most people of any
task force in the brigade… we
also have many exceptional
leaders and followers at all
levels. We rely on our NCOs
because we have the fewest
officers of any of the other
task forces; we have the larg-
est companies, platoons and
sections; we have the most
MOSs; and every section does
something different and pro-
vides the brigade a unique
capability. Our warrant offi-
cers are technical experts,
mentors and in several cases
platoon leaders; our warrant
officers maintain the resident
expertise for the brigade.
Our people include our
volunteers: our FRG advisor,
our FRG leaders, treasurers,
key callers, party planners,
face painters, meal mak-
ers..the list goes on. Again,
thank you for everything you
have done to support our Sol-
diers, their Families and the
community.
This month we farewelled
CPT Shull our two-time S1.
Ben came to us out of A Com-
pany where he was a platoon
leader and then the company
XO. Unfortunately for us,
CPT Shull is leaving the
Army and off to enjoy some
new experiences. We also
said farewell to MAJ Ryan
Guthrie our B Company com-
mander. Ryan has been in
command for over two years
and has led a company that is
larger than some of the other
task forces were down range.
She is off to the Command
and General Staff College for

without you and I can’t ever
thank you enough. Thank
you for your commitment to
making a difference in our
lives! I’d really like to say a
special thank you to all the

Hello Families of HSC
277 ASB, summer is almost
here even if the weather
seems to think we are in
spring. This month will be
more on the relaxing side as
we try to focus on spending
time with family. The FRG is
coming up with great ideas
for family and couples events
around the northern New
York area which we will dis-
cuss at this month’s FRG
meeting along with fundraising
ideas.. If there are any prob-
lems arising, know that the
company is here to support and
to offer assistance.
The company had six promo-
tions this month. On 4 May we
promoted SPC Phillip Wyant,
SPC Adam Orwig, PFC Fabian
Barrientos, PFC Ethan Dooley,
PV2 Odessa Gallant and PV2
Paris Gynor. We will also be
saying goodbye to members of
our family this month, LTC Al-
bert Stiller, CPT Ben Shull,
MSG Marquita Sayles, CW3
Nixon Pierrelouis, SPC Kimmy
Emery, SPC Samuel Daigle and
SPC Scott McPherson. With
that I would like to welcome
new members, CW2 Clever
P r i n c e , S G T J o s h u a
Maidenbaum, PV2 Odessa Gal-
lant, PV2 Paris Gynor, PV2

The FRG meeting will be on
14 June at 1730. It will take
place on post at the HSC Class-
room, 20345 Anaconda Rd, Ft
Drum. This will be a pot luck
event, so please send an email
on what you will bring so we
can make sure there is a variety.
I look forward to seeing every-

Hello Alpha Eagle Families,
May has been a busy month for a
lot of us. I would like to say Welcome
to the new families that have just got
here and Best Wishes to the families
that are leaving us very soon. I’ve
been working hard this month to get
our company BBQ/Organizational day
together. It will be Friday June 29th
over at Remington Park. Keep your
eyes out for more details. Congrats to
HQ section for winning the Coin War

Memory is a way of
holding onto the things
you love, the things
you are, the things you
never want to lose.
A memory is what is

days; we remember
moments.
Please enjoy the mo-

The sun is shining, the birds
are chirping, and May is here,
and has brought some very nice
weather. With the arrival of the
good weather, we have the op-
portunity to have our company
BBQ. The company BBQ is
scheduled for 29 June which
will kick off the Division block
leave period, the first two
weeks of July. We are looking
for volunteers to help the FRG
not only for the upcoming
BBQ, but with key callers and
to help out during our monthly
FRG meetings. Our next FRG
meeting will be 14 June,
5:30pm at the Rhicard Hills
Community Center. I encour-
age all families and single sol-
diers to come and check it out.
If you are interested in volun-
teering for either the BBQ or the
FRG please contact either myself
or Mrs. Popp.
This month we say farewell to
our XO, LT Figueroa. She has
been a part of the Alpha Company
team for the last couple years and
has been a vital part of our suc-
cess both deployed and in garri-
son. She will be missed, but as it
is with every Soldier, she will be
moving on and we wish her the
best of luck.
I would also like to welcome
two new leaders to the ranks of
Alpha Company. First, is our new
XO, 1LT Juan Cepeda. He comes
to us from HSC and he will be a
welcomed member to our A Co
family. Also, I would like to wel-
come 1SG Brian Johnson. He and
his wife, who is also stationed in
the CAB, moved here from Ko-
rea. He is a very experienced
Senior NCO and we look forward
to working with him.
I hope everyone is en-
joying our very lovely
weather. I want all of
you to take advantage of the up-
coming block leave. Take the op-
portunity to utilize block leave and
spend some time with family or just
take a well deserved rest.

Greetings Hangar Rat
Families:
The company distrib-
uted multiple awards this
month to our Soldiers as
they depart the unit. We
hit the crescendo of our
exodus and our company
will be rebuilding our infra-
structure in preparation for
the next deployment. Over
the next two months, we
will complete our change
our of all the leadership in
the company and battalion.
We promoted CPT
Hewko to the rank of Cap-
tain this month. She re-
ceived her orders with a
back date of July 2011.
Her patience was rewarded
with her promotion to the
grade she deserves.
We reenlisted SPC Comoda
this month for continued
military service. Only the
best get the privilege of con-
tinued service.
We also received and wel-
comed outstanding Soldiers
to our formation in May. We
welcomed PFC Burns and his
wife to armament platoon,
CW3 Rutsch and his wife to
armament platoon, CW2
Wood and his wife to avion-
ics platoon, and SPC Towns
to maintenance platoon. Our
newest additions are greatly
welcomed into the fold of our

Charlie Company - Ravens

C Company Commander
Spring arrived just in time for our
first Communications Exercise
(COMEX). The Ravens spent the
month of May training on the suite of
Warfighter Information Network-
Tactical (WIN-T) equipment that pro-
vides tactical internet communications
in austere environments and protects
the transmission of classified material
through cyberspace. The WIN-T
equipment is made up of numerous sys-
tems that work together to create a robust
network capable of transporting both
voice and data worldwide.
The North Country weather didn’t
cooperate for the barbeque we had
planned for our May FRG meeting but if
you were here you did get a chance to
walk through and see some of the WIN-
T equipment in action around our com-
mand post. Working in conjunction with
the brigade network operations team, the
Ravens honed their skills on emplacing
and displacing the Joint Network Node
and the Command Post Nodes to build
proficiency for training events later this
year at
This month we also conducted a pie-
in-the-face fundraiser for the FRG. LTC
Stiller and CSM Escalara were both kind
enough to offer up their faces to support
the Ravens. Next month we will have
our FRG meeting here at the company on
Thursday, the 14th of June but we are
also putting together a company organiza-
tional day which is planned for the the 28th,
which will be the last Thursday before we
start our block leave period. Expect a flyer
soon with the location and events for the
Ravens Organizational Day and hope to see
everyone there!
This month we also bid farewell to bat-
talion command team, LTC Albert Stiller &
his wife Melissa Stiller, we will miss them
and all the support and leadership they have
provided the Ravens team. We wish them
well in all of their future endeavors, and
since it is a small Army, hopefully some of
our paths will cross again!

Greetings and Salutations Charlie
Company!
FRG leader Megan Wilson here to
fill you all in on what’s been going
on around C Co. On April 27th, C Co
held a ―Pie in the Face‖ day. The
turnout was even better than expected
and almost everybody got pied.
Which reminds me, a BIG thank you
needs to go out to LTC. Stiller, CSM
Escalera for taking time out of their
busy schedules to stop by C Co to get
pied. Also a big thank you to Capt.
Thompson, 1SG Dunn, all the LT’s,
and Sgt’s who participated as well.
On May 10th, C Co had its monthly
FRG meeting, which also went very
well. We talked about what’s coming
up in 277th events as well as Fort
Drum events. CPT Thompson in-
formed the soldiers to get prepared
for lots and lots of upcoming training.
And we discussed the upcoming
BBQ which will hopefully happen if the
weather works in our favor. Our next
FRG meeting will be held on June 14th
@1630 to 1730 outside of C Co, we are
having a grill out. Any questions feel
free to call or email me.
Until next time everybody!

―The sons of Issachar under-
stood the time and knew what
they should do.‖ 2 Chron. 12:32
Jim Collins uses this analogy in
his book Good to Great.
Picture a huge, heavy fly-
wheel—a massive metal disk
mounted horizontally on an axle,
about 30 feet in diameter, 2 feet
thick, and weighing about 5,000
pounds. Now imagine that your
task is to get the flywheel rotat-
ing on the axle as fast and long
as possible.
Pushing with great effort,
you get the flywheel to inch
forward, moving almost imper-
ceptibly at first. You keep push-
ing and, after two or three hours
of persistent effort, you get the
flywheel to complete one entire
turn.
You keep pushing, and the
flywheel begins to move a bit
faster, and with continued great
effort, you move it around a
second rotation. You keep
pushing in a consistent direction.
Three turns . . . four . . . five . . .
six . . . the flywheel builds up
speed . . . seven . . . eight . . . you
keep pushing . . . nine . . . ten . . . it
builds momentum . . . eleven . . .
twelve . . . moving faster with each
turn . . . twenty . . . thirty . . .
fifty . . . a hundred.
Then, at some point—
breakthrough! The momentum of
the thing kicks in in your favor,
hurling the flywheel forward, turn
after turn . . . whoosh! . . . its own
heavy weight working for you.
You’re pushing no harder than
during the first rotation, but the
flywheel goes faster and faster.
Each turn of the flywheel builds
upon work done earlier, com-
pounding your investment of ef-
fort. A thousand times faster, then
ten thousand, then a hundred thou-
sand. The huge heavy disk flies
forward, with almost unstoppable
momentum.
Now suppose someone came
along and asked, ―What was the
one big push that caused this thing
to go so fast? You wouldn’t be
able to answer; it’s just a nonsensi-
cal question. Was it the first push?
The second? The fifth? The hun-
dredth? No! It was all of them
added together in an overall accu-
mulation of effort applied in a
consistent direction. Some pushes
may have been bigger than others,
but any single heave—no matter
how large—reflects a small frac-
tion of the entire cumulative effect
upon the flywheel. (p164-165)
We all have certain values—
some are more life giving while
others are self serving. Regardless
of the motivation we are going to
be driven by specific values. So
what are yours? Do they keep you
focused? Focused on what? Your
lack of focus or ability to focus
will either result in spinning out of
control in a direction you don’t
want to go or help you gain the
ability to keep pushing in the same
direction, building momentum, so
that you arrive at your desired
destination.

here for Soldiers and families. Money
is one of the biggest problems in many
marriages. If that’s your problem, seek
out the Financial MFLC that works on
the airfield, or go to Financial Readi-
ness to get some help getting back on
the right path. These people all want to
help you! The military provides all
these services FREE of charge to
help you get through the bad days.
Lastly, I’d just like to say that
remember you have each other. We
all go through similar ups and downs
in the Army, and it’s helpful to talk
to others in your same situation.
Even if you are a shy person, go to
your FRG meetings, get the info, and
meet someone. A good friend can
help make life tremendously better.
Be good to each other and make
each other smile! I wish each of you
much happiness and fun in life, and
thank many of you for your friend-
ship! Take good care of yourselves
and may we meet again!
