June 15, 2014 Trinity Sunday

New or Visiting? We are so glad that you are here with us today! We would love to meet you and answer any questions. Contact the Welcoming Ministry at 925-294-4178. We hope that your experience at our parish reflects our vision statement:

Today we begin a new format for our Sunday bulletin. We have hired a vibrant and creative young woman, Tina Gregory, to develop our online presence further so that it becomes an ever more welcoming, informative

and exciting part of St. Michael’s efforts to reach out to everyone. And I have also given her the responsibility of preparing the parish bulletin each week.

The bulletin is in the process of development and your input to that effort will be helpful. So, please contact Tina with your suggestions, comments and concerns over the next few weeks while this remains a work in progress. She can be reached at smcbulletin@yahoo.com or 925-961-7231.

Please note: If you want something in the bulletin, announcing some event that you are having, the deadline for those submissions to Tina is 12 noon on Monday each week.

I want to single out for a special thank you Jayne Archer, who has faithfully seen to the production of our bulletin for the last ten years – usually working late into the night to get it ready for the printer. Her fidelity to this task is most exemplary, though sometimes probably appearing thankless. But those long years of faithful effort deserve our deepest thanks. It has been a gift of ministry that has supported us all and we are truly grateful.

Father’s Day Prayer We pray for all fathers and for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and ad-vice. We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live for-ever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen.

12,16), God was preparing us for the fullest possible revelation of His love for the world.

As Abraham was willing to offer Isaac, God did not spare His own Son but handed Him over for us all (see Romans 8:32).

In this, He revealed what was only disclosed partially to Moses - that His kindness continues for a thousand generations, that He forgives our sin, and takes us back as His very own people (see Deuteronomy 4:20; 9:29).

Jesus humbled himself to die in obedience to God's will. And for this, the Spirit of God raised Him from the dead (see Romans 8:11), and gave Him a name above every name (see Philippians 2:8-10).

This is the name we glorify in today's Responsorial - the name of our Lord, the God who is Love (see 1 John 4;8,16).

Trinity Sunday

We often begin Mass with the prayer from today's Epistle: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you." We praise the God who has revealed himself as a Trinity, a communion of persons.

Communion with the Trinity is the goal of our worship - and the purpose of the salvation history that begins in the Bible and continues in the Eucharist and sacraments of the Church.

We see the beginnings of God's self-revelation in today's First Reading, as He passes before Moses and cries out His holy name.

Israel had sinned in worshipping the golden calf (see Exodus 32). But God does not condemn them to perish. Instead He proclaims His mercy and faithfulness to His covenant.

God loved Israel as His firstborn son among the nations (see Exodus 4:22). Through Israel - heirs of His covenant with Abraham - God planned to reveal himself as the Father of all nations (see Genesis 22:18).

The memory of God's covenant testing of Abraham - and Abraham's faithful obedience - lies behind today's Gospel.

In commanding Abraham to offer his only beloved son (see Genesis 22:2,

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The LORD, merciful and gracious, rich in kindness and faithfulness (Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9). Psalm — Glory and praise for ever! (Daniel 3). Second Reading — Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Live with one another in peace, and the God of peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11-13). Gospel — God did not send the Son to condemn the world, but to give it abundant life (John 3:16-18).

Nine Hour Novena June 27th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Do you have an urgent petition to ask of the love and mercy of His Sacred Heart? This is a powerful nine-hour Novena that can be prayed in one day. "O Jesus, Who has said, "Ask, and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you," I knock, I seek, I ask that my prayer be granted.

"O Jesus, Who has said, "Everything you ask of the Father in My name, He will grant it," Father, in the Name of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I humbly and urgently ask that my prayer be granted. O Jesus, Who has said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away," I am confident that my prayer will be granted. “

Preserving International Food Aid Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are urging the U.S. Senate to defeat a proposal that would cost two million people around the world access to life-saving international food aid from the American people. The stance came in a let-ter, signed by the CRS President and the Chairman of the USCCB Committee on International Justice and Peace, sent to the chairman of the Senate Committee on Com-merce, Science and Transportation. They point to Pope Francis' call to all people to end "the scandal of hunger and the irresponsible use of the world's resources."

Do You Know About Tithing?

Tithing is the practice estab-lished by God of returning 10% of your blessings to Him. Throughout sacred scripture God tells us that everything belongs to Him. He made us and blessed us with absolutely every gift we have. Our lives,

our families, our health, our education, our unique talents and skills, our job and our income are all blessings from God, entrusted to our care for the good of all peoples. Thus, when we tithe we are really only giving back 10% of something that ultimately belongs to God anyway.

Two ways to tithe at St Michael: Visit the church office to sign up for tithing envelopes. Sign up for automatic giving at www.faithdirect.net, click on “individuals” then enroll using church code 602.

Finding the Fullness of Faith Audio Presentation by Lighthouse Catholic Media

Stephen Ray was raised in a devout, loving, Baptist family. In this presentation, he shares his amazing conversion to Ca-tholicism and explains why he is convinced it is the Church founded by Christ over 2,000 years ago. "Fantastic!! This is absolutely the one CD everyone should start with ... it is persuasive, informative, and highly valuable in educating Catholics and non-Catholics about Catholicism! I will order many and give them to family and friends." Susan - Land O Lakes, FL "This put into words everything I want to tell my friends about my faith but cannot remember when the time is right. Thank you!” Jane - Bourbonnais, IL "Steve Ray's conversion story is powerful - a wake-up call to "cradle Catholics" to cherish the faith we so often take for granted." Marianne - Youngstown, OH

Find this and other Catholic audio presentations on the CD kiosk located in the St Michael’s courtyard walkway on Sundays or in the office vestibule other days; $3 donation.
