EQUIPMENT

AIM

• To find out what happens when combinations of water ,sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid are mixed.

PREDICTION

• Bottle 1: I predicted that the powders wouldn’t react because there’s no water in the bottle.

• Bottle 2: It would sink to the bottom of the bottle.

• Bottle 3: same as bottle 2.

• Bottle 4: I thought it was going to blow the balloon up.

STEPS USED

1.First I got the equipment I needed.

2.Then I labelled the balloons and the bottles and then put the powders in the balloons and water in the bottles.

3.I then tipped all the different powders into the bottles one by one.

4.Some reacted and some didn’t.

BOTTLE 1

The two powders fell to the bottom of the

bottle and the balloon went up a little bit with

air.

BOTTLE 2

The powder sunk to the bottom and when I

mixed the powders it nearly dissolved.

BOTTLE 3

When I put the powder in the bottle it sunk to the bottom and when I mixed it, the water bubbled a little bit and nearly dissolved the powder.

BOTTLE 4When I put the powders in the bottle, the

water fizzed up and blew the balloon up, and

the water started to over flow.

I believe that bubbles are little pockets of airthat appear when the sodium bicarbonateand the tartaric acid mix with the water. The bubbles only appear when the twopowders mix with water. I think the balloononly inflated when the bubbles popped andair got pushed into the balloon. I think if youmix bottles 2 & 3 together that it will producethe same reaction as bottle 4. In conclusion,I wouldn’t do anything differently.
