With the changeover from the concrete standard DIN 1045:1988-07 to the version DIN 1045:2001-07 intro-duced in 2001 with Parts 1 to 4*), the Approvals for fixing systems have also been up dated. In order to work in accordance with the new safety concept of the standard, in addition to the permissible loads which were previously normal, design loads (design values of the load bearing capacity) are also specified in blue text in the catalogue.
Therefore, the catalogue values can also be applied in conjunction with Eurocode EC2 and EC3.

Anchor channel bolted joints ensure maximum safety, which is based on careful quality control, the most recent findings from labora-tory and practical tests and decades of experience. This does not change with the introduction of the partial safety concept of DIN 1045-1 and EC2. Our customers can rely on a safety margin of 2.1 to 2.5 against the statistically secured ultimate limit state depending upon the critical point being steel or concrete. The individual values in tests generally result in safety margins of 3– 4.The published data of the Approval is safeguarded statistically and is monitored continuously. For more information on the European safety concept see apendix on page 73.
JORDAHL® provides a comprehensive range of channels for safe and secure anchoring of loads into reinforced concrete. JORDAHL® solutions are user-friendly and tested. JORDAHL® provides the correct technology for your fixing problem: safely, quickly and reliably.

FIXING TECHNOLOGY
JORDAHL® channels and accessories

Technical principles
The safety advantages• Fixing without damaging
the body of the structure• Verified safety through
building Approval of the products
• High load capacity even in delicate or highly rein-forced components
• Independent of shrinkage and creep of the concrete component
• Suitable for installation in the compression and ten-sion zone of the component
• Suitable for components with fire prevention require-ments
PlanningAnchor channels should be planned in good time and incorporated into the rein-forcement drawings or formwork drawings with specification of type, length and position.Ideally, not only the current loads but also the loadings of future extensions are taken into account. There is a complete profile library available for CAD users.
It can be accessed at:http://www.jordahl.de
The planning rulesThe criteria for the instal lation are governed by the approval requirements. These define:• Load bearing capacities• Edge spacings• Minimum dimensions of the
components• Area of application with
regard to corrosion pre-vention
• Anchor channels permit extremely high loadings even close to the edge.
Installation advantages• Problem-free application
by simply nailing to the formwork
• Fast and easy installation of joining constructions
• Simple adjustment of the joining constructions
• Rapid compensation of structural tolerances
• Simple installation without electrical tools
The JORDAHL® anchor channel range
• JORDAHL® anchor channels JTA for tension, oblique tension and transverse tension.
• JORDAHL® toothed channels JXA and JZA for accommodating loads in all directions.
• JORDAHL® anchor chan-nels JRA for high static and dynamic loads.
• JORDAHL® loop channels JSA for constructional applications.
• JORDAHL® bolts as hook-head, hammerhead and toothed bolts.
Anchor channels are the superior fix-ing system for transferring loads in reinforced concrete components

Installation of anchor channels
Prepare the channelsAnchor channels are supplied in all desired lengths. Lengths by the metre can also be cut to length on the building site. Each piece of channel must have at least two anchors.
Fixing to the formworkJORDAHL® anchor channels are installed in accordance with a reinforcement draw-ing. In order to prevent displacement during the concreting operation, the channels are fixed to the formwork.
Compaction of the concreteIf anchor channels are installed on the upper side of the component, the anchor channel must be fixed with an auxiliary con-struction in order to prevent displacement or sinking.
Removal of the foam fillingFollowing the removal of the formwork, the fixing means needed for the installation are released. The filling can then be removed by means of a hammer or the like.
Bolt installationJORDAHL® bolts can be introduced into the channel slot at any desired point and, following 90° rotation, can be fixed by tightening with the appropriate torque.
The cut must be made at max 35 mm beside an anchor.
Fixing options:• To wooden formwork by means of nails or stain-less steel nails through the nail holes present in the back of the profile or by means of lateral bonding with polyolefin hot melt adhesives.
• To steel formwork by bolting on with JORDAHL® bolts or with magnets.
Compaction of the concrete is carried out with appropriate means around the anchor channel. It is not sufficient to push it into the wet con-crete afterwards.
For protection against fresh concrete, JORDAHL® anchor channels are pro-vided with a foam filler. This consists of polystyrene (PS) or polyethylene (PE).
Both types can easily be removed. If self-compact-ing concrete is used, we recommend only PS foam.
Following installation, the correct seating of the bolt in the anchor channel must be inspected. The slot must be transverse in relation to the channel direction.
Here, one notch means non-toothed bolts and two notches mean toothed bolts.

The product designation7)
The letter K means:The profile is formed cold from the strip on multi-stage forming systems. It therefore has round edges and has the same sheet metal thickness over the entire cross section.
The letter W means:The profile is hot-rolled from the incandescent block, is therefore particularly free of stress, its shape is optimized and it is well-suited for non-static loads and welded constructions.

Curved anchor channels, pairs and corners
Curved anchor channels
For curved structures, supply shafts, treatment plants or tunnels, JORDAHL® can supply pre-curved anchor channels. The anchor chan nels can be curved in a con cave direction (profile slot on the inside) or in a convex direction (profile slot on the outside).
The maximum developed length of curved anchor channels is max. L = 5.80 m. Greater lengths and smaller bending radii than those specified in the table require additional effort and longer supply times.

Anchor channel type JSA
JORDAHL® anchor channels JSA with anchoring straps for non-load bearing constructions and constructional applications.
System and installation
JORDAHL® anchor channels JSA consist of profiles which punched-out loops and associated anchoring straps made of sheet metal strip, which are installed on the building site and can easily be bent to shape by hand.
ApplicationsJORDAHL® anchor channel JSA should be used for fixing non-load bearing construc-tions. In this case, anchoring must be carried out only in normal reinforced concrete in strength class C12/15. They may be used without further certification, if the load does not exceed 1 kN/m2. Slippage at the anchoring straps is to be
expected under service load. The anchor channel type is no longer approved by the German Institute for Structural Engineering.
InstallationThe anchoring straps are pushed through the punched-out loops at spacings of 250 mm and bent to shape (see figure). There are punched-out loops at spacings of 125 mm, straps are installed only in each second loop. In any case, an anchoring strap must be arranged at the start and end of the channels.During installation, the edge spacings from page 35 should be observed.
Bend over strap ends by about 50 mm

Anchor channel type JRA W 74/48
JORDAHL® anchor channel JRA, the solution for extremely high static and dynamic loads.
System and materials
JORDAHL® anchor channels JRA consist of W 74/48 profiles with reinforced concrete anchors welded on at the sides. The system may be adapted to many areas of application. Other profile sizes can also be provided with reinforced concrete anchors in special solutions. They should be certified in the individual case.
Load capacityJRA W 74/48 is suitable for absorbing extremely high static and dynamic loads. The construction has been tested by the German Federal Institute for Materials Testing under the number 2.2/20247.
On the basis of experimental data with a load range of Fo – Fu = 38 kN, with an upper load of Fo = 40 kN, these anchor channels have passed the long-term stress capability test for fatigue load ranges of up to 30 kN.
ApplicationsTypical areas of use are crane and conveyor systems, power plants and protective room constructions.
Lengths suppliedShort pieces in lengths beginning at 150 mm, and also lengths by the metre, fixed lengths on request.Anchor channel type JRA with reinforced concrete anchors welded on

Short anchor channel pieces
A short anchor channel piece is often used for fixing a fitted part with two bolts. The permissible loads accord-ing to page 34 apply to non-reinforc ed concrete, in which closer anchor spacings do not
increase the load bearing capacity.By means of experiments, it has been demonstrated that the load bearing capacity is increased by arranging a third anchor if it is retained by rear suspend ed reinforcement in accord an ce with the rules on page 36. In response to a
customer request, the technical department will work up a proposed solu-tion as a special construc-tion or will make pro posals for a reinforce ment arran-ge ment. The regular edge spacings accord ing to page 35 must be maintained.
1) When anchored in concrete grade C12/15 B15 the permissible loads for C 20/25 B 25 are to be reduced by a factor 0.7.
2) Bracketed values apply when C 30/37 B 35 is used and are permissible only when the expansion of the concrete transversly to the channels longitudinal axis is prevented by reinforcement (a rod of BSt 500 S, dS 8 mm at the channel ends) or by transverse pressure.
3) When smaller bolts are used, the permissible load on the bolts must not be exceeded.

Anchor channels under fire loading
Anchor channels JTA and JXA can also be used in components made of standard concrete with a fire prevention requirement F90 or F60 to DIN 4102 Part 2 (90 or 60 minutes time to failure under fire).Anchor channels in reinforced concrete beams stress ed by fire on one side, rein forced concrete beams stress ed by fire on three sides, and rein-forced concrete columns stressed by fire on four sides were investigated.
In this case, only dead loads at right angles to the channel longitudinal axis and central tension/oblique tension and shear load are permissible (no longitudinal tension). The respective Approvals contain statements relating to the permissible loads on the bolt under fire loading and to increasing the axial distance to the reinforce-ment.See details in Approval text:Z-21.4-151Z-21.4-1690
The minimum distances indicated in the table apply to normal reinforced concrete C 20/25 B 25.There are no requirements for reinforcement when the spacing is increased by 30%.

Prestressed bolted joints
Prestressing forces of hammerhead and hook-head bolts
Suspended direct and stand-off installation
In fixing technology, for the applications
• Suspended direct and stand-off installation
• Stress in the channel longitudinal direction
it is important to prestress the bolted connections in order to prevent undesired loosening or slippage of the bolted connections.Higher-strength bolts (8.8) are not absolutely necessary for this purpose. 4.6 and A4-50 joints are also
adequate if the following points are taken into con-sideration:
• In the short term, a force arising from prestressing with tightening torque is normally higher than the external load.
• The applied prestressing force is dissipated down to about 50% by relaxation.
• Bolts made of stainless steel exhibit higher friction
than galvanized bolts. Therefore, stainless steel bolts produce lower prestressing forces.
• JORDAHL® bolts are supplied ready for installa-tion. They should not be additionally oiled or treated with lubricants before the tightening torque is applied.
• Bolted joints may be prestressed only when there is steel to steel contact.
If the channel is set back behind the concrete surface, then the connect-ing construc tion must be shimmed by means of a suitable washer ( p. 41).
If this is not followed and the attached part its prestressed against the concrete surface, it leads to residual stresses in the component. These can cause cracks or splitting of the concrete component.
For these application situa-tions, cold-rolled and hot-rolled profiles can be used. In order to prestress a bolted joint with electro-galvanized (gv) bolts or stainless steel bolts, we recommend that the tightening torques to Approval Z-21.4-151 be doubled.
In order to prestress hot-dip galvanized bolts and nuts, we provide installation procedures for respective applications and supply forms (oiled, undercut).

Relationship between prestressing force and applied torque
The relationship between prestressing force and tightening torque for electro-galvanized bolts and stainless steel bolts can be seen in the graph. The prestressing forces for the recommended tightening torques (4.6 and A4-50) according to the Approval and the maximum prestressing forces for the maximum tightening torques are illustrated in the graph. The limiting value of the maximum prestressing force at 90% utilisation of the bolt yield strength must not be exeeded. It can be seen that the Approval recommended tightening torques may be increased by 100% without overloading the bolt.
Stress in channel longitudinal direction
This application is docu-mented by means of internal tests and is not part of the Building Approval. The load that can be absorbed depends on the anchor channel material, the bolt type and bolt material used and the tightening torque. The safety factor against slippage is approximately

JORDAHL® Eyelet sockets are used to introduce tensile forces into concrete compo-nents, such as occur during the transport of fabricated parts. The eyelet sockets are cast into the reinforced con-crete components.
To transmit a force, a rein-forcing rod is needed as an anchorage. To do this, a rod with the largest possible diameter is fed through the transverse hole and bent over as per the drawing.
Clamping plates
JORDAHL® clamping plates are suitable for fixing standard profiles from the I and IPB series and also crane channels.

Locking plates
UseJORDAHL® locking plates can be used at any point on the JORDAHL® channel. As a result of a 90 degree rotation after being inserted or tilted in, the threaded hole is at the centre. Locking plates are preferably used for stand-off mounting with long bolts or threaded rods. Because of the hidden installation, they are not approved by the German Institute for Structural Engineering.
Hooked-head locking platesThey are forged with an accurate shape and there-fore ensure that they do not rotate back. In order to make installation easier, we recommend a thin strip of foam inside the channel, behind the locking plate.
Hammerhead locking platesHammerhead locking plates can be used for the tempo-rary fixing of components of lesser importance. They clamp without a particular form fit like the hook-head locking plates.
On request, we also produce captive strips suitable for fixed thread spacings.
1) The load bearing capacities of the anchor channels according to p. 33 and the mounting profiles according to p. 48/49 must be noted. The respectively smaller value is decisive.
2) 17.3 kN permissible only in the W 53/34 and W 54/43 profile.

JORDAHL® pressure bolts are spacer bolts. They are primarily used in the installa-tion of precast elements and are used to transmit com-pressive forces resulting from dead weight or wind loads. Tensile forces cannot be absorbed.
ConstituentsThe construction comprises• a plastic sleeve with a nail
plate, which is arranged in the precast element or in the insitu concrete,
• a suitable bolt with nuts and washer made of stainless steel 1.4401(A4) nach EN 10088.
JORDAHL® pressure bolt
Application adviceIn order to permit adjust-ment, the bolt should be arranged about 15 cm away from the edge of the fabricated part. In this case, the edge spacing from the upper edge of the plate should be ar 1,5d (d = plate thickness). The fact that the forces are passed on in the concrete must be verified and ensured by adequate reinforcement in the force introduction region. In combination with a tube socket ( p. 55), the pressure bolt joint can also be braced against inadvertent detachment.

Profiled metal sheet fixing JTB
Profiled metal sheet fixing channels permit fast, cost-effective instal-lation of profiled metal sheets on reinforced con-crete components. The anchors on conventional fixing channels are often difficult to insert in the pre-formed reinforcement cages. The profiled metal sheet fixing channels JTB-AR and JTB-uni from JORDAHL® can be incorpo-rated more easily in the existing reinforce ment due to their slim anchor format.
Forms supplied
ProductsJORDAHL® have a suitable channel fixing arrangement available for any application requirement or concentra-tion of reinforcement. The types JTB-AR and JTB-uni are suitable for all typical applications. They are rec-ommended in particular for all reinforced components.Profiled metal sheet fixing channels from JORDAHL® and the associated end anchors have Building Approval: JTB: Z-21.4-161.
MaterialProfiled metal sheet fixing channels from JORDAHL® are produced from steel to EN 10 025, hot-dipped galvanized with 50µm zinc layer or from stainless steel 1.4571 or 1.4401/ 1.4404 (A4).
Channel profile sizes: 60/24/3 or 60/22/6.
The profiled metal sheet fixing channels JTB-AR and JTB-uni are supplied in two standard options (stock length 3 m in each case)• centrally divisible, allow cutting in half, therefore often
particularly cost-effective anchor spacings e: 3450 mm, 1150 mm, 3450 mm Ordering example: JTB 60/24/3-uni-450-A4
Installation and mountingProfiled metal sheet fixing channels with inserted foam filling are concreted into the smooth and flat concrete surface of the load bearing component, flush with the surface and in the correct alignment. End joints between two fixing channels should be about 20 mm. Following the removal of the formwork, the profiled metal sheets are fixed to the chan-nel by approved connecting means, self-tapping screws or set screws. The profiled metal sheet must be fixed in the central third of the width of the rear of the channel. The axis of the bolt must be at least 2.5 cm from the end of the channel. The applicable Standards and Regulations for profiled metal sheets and fixing means (DIN 18 807, Approval Z-14.1-4) must be observed.
• divisible as required, can be cut to suit, anchor spacing e: 150 mm, Order example: TB 60/24/3-AR-150-fv
For special cases which cannot be covered by these supply variants, approved end anchors are available which are fixed to the channels by self-tapping screws. uni

End anchors
Hot-dip galvanized fixing channels which are shorten ed individually are secured at the end by end anchors approved by the German Institute for Structural Engineering. The end anchors are fixed 75 mm away from the end of the channels.
The fixing means used for the end anchors can be self-tapping drill screws ST 4.816 gv to EN ISO 15480.
1) If the channels are arranged in such a way that the anchors of adjacent channels are offset centrally by at least 25 cm with respect to one another, the axial spacing aa may be reduced to 8 cm.
2) In the event that the permissible anchor force is not fully utilised, the edge spacing ar in the case of exclusively central tensile loading may be reduced to:
red. ar = F / perm. F ar 5 cmwhere F = existing anchor force, perm. F = permissible anchor force.
3) If the anchor force is fully utilised, the last anchor must be at least 9 cm away from the edge.
4) If the anchor force is fully utilised, the two end anchors must have a mutual spacing of at least 15 cm.
5) This is given by the geometry of the anchor and the required concrete covering c according to Eurocode EC2.

Glass facades
JORDAHL® glass facade fittings The systemThe JORDAHL® anchoring system for glass or metal facades has been developed to absorb extremely high vertical and horizontal loads. The various individual solu-tions are based on two basic principles:1. a top fixed bracket to
transmit horizontal forces (from wind) and vertical forces (from deadweight) and the moments result-ing from this into the floor slab.
2. edge fixed cleat assembly to transmit the tensile forces (from wind) into the end of the floor slab.
The advantages• simple installation and easy
adjustability of the fixing system
• fixing close to the edge or front end
• secure absorption and transfer of vertical and horizontal loads even into thin floor slabs. Individual loads up to 32 kN possible
• dynamic loadbearing ability as a result of the use of hot-rolled channel profiles with verified cycle size of 7.0 kN
• simple incorporation of the fixing system into the various possible floor constructions, such as in ribbed reinforced concrete slabs or slim floor slabs with profiled metal decking.
JORDAHL® glass facade fittings for glass and metal facades are used to fix the longitudinal and transverse profiles of curtain walling
systems and transfer the loads into the supporting components. They are adaptable to suit any application and format-ted in accordance with the design requirements.

Partial safety factors
Until today, for the design of fixings static design engineers use so called permissible or allowable loads (perm. F). The applied loads (app. F) are unfactored and directly compared with the per missible loads. Permissible loads represent the nominal load capacity – derived from experiments or calculations- divided by a global safety factor gl. The component is considered sufficiently safe, when it fulfills the following condition: app. F perm. F. Already in the past per miss able load values published in Germany were based upon statistical evidence.
The old concept: app. F perm. F
of concepts from permissible (or allowable) loads to design re sistance may easily cause confusion when selecting anchors or fixings. It will take some time for the new terminology to become generally accepted. When mixing old load classes and new resistance levels, mistakes are either un-economical, because the selected parts are 40% too big, or they are unsafe, because the applied load (app. F) is 40% higher than assumed. During the transition phase the JORDAHL® catalogue will show both values: the old permissible loads (perm. F) and the new design resistances.
Safety factors for design calculation of fixings to concrete according to Eurocode EC2 (EN 1992-1-1:2004) versus older national standards
In most European countries steel and concrete con struct ions are designed using calculations based upon partial safety factors. With Germany officially intro duc ing the new stand-ard DIN 1045-1:2001-07 an im portant step is made to abandon global safety fact ors and converge towards a common design concept in Europe. However the change
This is controlled in case of approv ed fixings which are regularly verified by independant laboratories. During the last two decades the statistical knowledge base increased signifi-cantly. The German Institute for Building Techno logy (DIBt) has taken this into account by enforcing global safety factors of 2.5 for smaller channels and normal concrete and 2.1 for the larger channels and higher grade concrete which higher level of supervision. A more accurate assessment did not fit into the scope of the old concept.

Partial safety factors
The new EUROCODE concept: FEd FRd
In the future all over Europe building constructions shall be de-signed according to the new concept with partial safety factors.
The concept is published in the Eurocodes (EC) and was adopt-ed by all national standardisation organizations in Europe.
The design verification according to EC2 (concrete) or EC3 (steel) happens on the design level: the design values FEd are characteristic loads factored with partial factors e.g. for permanent actions (G = 1.35 dead loads) or variable actions (Q = 1.5 life loads). The design loads FEd are compar ed with the design resistance FRd = FRk /M. That means the character-istic resistances FRk (characteristic values of ultimate loads) of every individual potential failure mode are divided by the specific partial factor for the material property M (e.g. concrete in tension Mct = 1.8, concrete in com press ion Mc = 1.5, rebar steel: Ms = 1.15). In general the proof accord ing to the new safety con cept is stated as: FEd FRd. But both sides (load and resistance)
require more effort from static designers, as you can see from the above symbolic diagram. The procedure allows to better take different influences of load and material into account and achieve a more constant and reliable safety level. With more knowledge of potential failure it will be possible to do more economic design and to push some of the limitations that the old concept entailed. However it is imperative that all data for such a detailed comparison is available. Most of the necessary testing is done and the European approval process has started but it will take some more years to finish. In difficult situations the technical department will use the existing knowledge for project specific calculations.

Partial safety factors
Anchor channels according to German approval: FRd = perm. F 1.4
In order to design fixings according to the new safety con-cept you need the design resistance FRd. Anchor channels, which are officially approved, are known by their typical permissible load level perm. F.If the permissible loads from the old concept are given, the new design resistance can be calculated by FRd = perm. FF. The partial safety factor for actions, here F = 1.4, is the weighted average of partial safety of G = 1.35 dead load and Q = 1.5 life load. This equation is a safe estimate wherever no specific design resistance data is available. The global saftety level remains untouched with this compromise. You can verify that by calculating FMct = 1.4 1.8 = 2.5 = gl for smaller
channels or F Mc = 1.4 1.5 = 2.1 = gl for larger channels and high grade concrete.1)
Detail oriented users may argue that this formula may result in about 4 % higher applicable dead loads. This is correct but very unlikely to happen and was accepted as intermediate solution. On the other hand about 7% less wind or other life load is applicable under the new rule. The formula gives a higher safety margin for those cases, which was in fact wanted by the DIBt. Users who do not want to improve the safety level could consider calculating FRd with F = 1.5 at their own risk.
From the diagram you can see that the load capacity (minimum failure load) generally does not change. Only how we look at it changes. The perspective, here the design level is about 40 % higher.
All users of fastenings and fixings should inform themselves whether the desired load capacity is still based upon permissable loads or already based upon design values.

1) Please note that any load capacity published in JORDAHL®-catalogues have already been based upon statistical control – as requested by the EUROCODE-concept today. Consequently global safety factors of 2.1 to 2.5 correspond to levels of 3 up to 5 when compared with other sources that neglect statistical correction.
