From Dr. Joe Alain
Baptist Message 8530 • Thursday, October 16, 2014 • Volume 2, Issue 211 The Newsletter of Hebron Baptist Church in Denham Springs, Louisiana
Mission Statement: “In all things, Hebron Baptist Church desires to be a church whose purpose is to be Christ-like in our daily living by emphasizing total commitment of life
to the Lordship of Christ for the Glory of God.” Touching Hearts Transforming Lives
“Let us come before His presence
with thanksgiving… Oh come,
let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the
LORD our maker.”
Psalm 95:2a, 6(NKJV)
“First Impressions” Teams It has been said that “first impressions are lasting impressions.” This is certainly true when people visit a church for the first time. It’s easy for us who are here every week to overlook just how intimidating it can be to visit a church for the very first time. “Where do I park? Where do I go? What do I wear? Where do I sit? Where is the nursery? Will I be welcomed? What is expected of me? Will I receive information about the church?” These are just a few of the many questions that go through the mind of a first time guest.
“First Impressions” teams are teams that are designed to help guests feel at home when they visit HBC. We want people to have a positive experience at HBC because we want to represent our God well. And we want all people to know Him and his fullness! All of us by our words, actions, and expressions play an important role in making people feel welcomed, whether they are first-time guests or long-time members. However, “First Impressions” teams are groups of people who have specific tasks related to making our guests and members feel welcomed and loved.
As we prepare to transition into our new facility (and even now), we are in great need of people to serve in areas of ministry that specifically are targeted towards making our guests and others welcomed at HBC. Here are some of the areas (and descriptions) that make up the first impression that our guest have of HBC:
· Greeters/Parking Lot Attendants (outside). Welcoming people in the parking lot,
assisting when needed, letting them know where the welcome center is.
· Greeters/Ushers (inside). Welcoming people, distributing worship guide, assisting
in seating.
· Welcome Center. Welcoming people, registering first time guests, helping guests know
where the nursery and other locations are, distributing literature, etc.
· Coffee Shop. Welcoming people, making coffee, serving, keeping area stocked.
· Follow-Up Teams. Telephone, mail, email, personal visits of guests, and helping
people feel welcomed and find their place at HBC.
· Kids Time Helpers. People to lead and assist in helping children learn about God
during the children’s worship time.
· Preschool Helpers. People to lead and assist in helping preschoolers learn about God
during Sunday School and Worship.
· Assisting Senior Members. Assisting our seniors and others to worship center.
· General Facility Help. Set up chairs, etc. as needed.
If you are interested in serving in any of our “First Impressions” teams, we want you! No experience is required. We will provide training. Please sign up through your Sunday School/Bible Study group or email the church office at hebron@hebronbc.com. A “Team” informational and training meeting will be held soon.

From the Pastor Here are the results from last week’s vote on the “Worship Change” recommendation brought from the Church Council.
147 Yes, 61 No (70.7%). Following the vote, let me say that as brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, we have so much
more in common than our differences. My prayer is that we will move forward united together in Christ, and “make every
effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” For “There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were
called to one hope when you were called” (Eph. 4:3-4).
A recent Open Windows devotional (9/29/14) said it well. “Every church faces internal challenges from time to time. The
way to get through them, however, is to remember the biblical command to love one another. . . churches that have been
through difficult times but continue to display love are a powerful testimony to those outside the church.” For the sake of our
Gospel witness, let us come together, let us be fully aware of Satan’s schemes” (2 Cor. 2:11), and let us walk in humility and
service, keeping our focus on Christ and His kingdom!
Thanking God for “all” the members of His “one body”!
Pastor Joe,
“Phil. 1:3”

A Lifestyle of Worship!
(2) Worship that pleases God is instrumental (Psalm 150)
Take a look at this list of instruments.
(3) Clearly God delights in joyful worship (Psalm 92:4)
Celebrate His Greatness!
(4) Worship that pleases God is grounded in the recognition and celebration of his
greatness (Psalm 92:5)
Always remember what He’s done for us!
(5) Worship that pleases God is both loud and logical . . . Note well that worship here [in
the Psalms] entails noisy songs.
The Psalms are full of exuberant Praise!
(6) Worship that pleases God is physical (Psalm 95:6)
We all express worship in different ways.
(7) Worship that pleases God is fresh and creative. (Psalm 33:3, Psalm 40:3, Psalm 96:1,
Psalm 98:1, Psalm 144:9, Psalm 149:1)
Sing to the Lord a New Song!
(8) Worship that pleases God is public. (Psalm 96:3)
Hebrews 10:24-25
(9) Worship that pleases God ascribes glory to his name.
Praise His name in the Sanctuary!
(10) God is especially honored when the whole of creation joins in celebrating his goodness
and greatness. (Psalm 96:11-13a).
His Love endures forever!
In the coming weeks I will be praying even more! I will be seeking His guidance! I
will be thinking of each of you. How do we come together in worship of the One True God?
We come together by putting aside our own desires and focusing on worship that pleases
our Father. I’m excited! I know He’s going to do some amazing things at HBC.
Loving Each of You,
Destry

Some Practical Ways
1. Special Events that are geared to specific audiences.
Our new facility will allow for some great worship opportunities that we were unable to host
in the past. Big names, Big Events, a lots of variety!
2. Special times of worship and prayer that will lean toward a particular style or genre.
We are praying over some ideas. I hope to share these soon.
3. Make your service an act of worship.
We have forgotten the fact that our acts of service are worship when we are doing them for
our Lord. Get involved in serving others.

Construction Update This week framing work and exterior sheathing continues. With all of the
recent work, it is exciting to see the full shape and look of our new facility. Put
November 9th on your calendar. In conjunction with our annual Harvest Day
meal that will be held on that Sunday, we plan to have a “Godly Graffiti” day
where you will be able to write a favorite Bible verse, etc. in areas of the
church. This will be done after our meal together following the second service.
A special prayer time in the new auditorium was recently held and more of
these prayer and praise events will be held in the future.
Continue to lift up in prayer this entire project as well as our church fellowship.
Pray that we all will be “like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit
and purpose” (Phil. 2:2). And that we will have the “mind of Christ” who took
on the “nature of a servant” (Phil. 2:6).
What an opportune time we have to share Jesus with our community!
Thank you for your continued Gospel faithfulness.
Pastor Joe
