Hello BBYC Members!
I think you’ll agree with me that the newsletters Alice Sunshine is producing are wonderful. They’re not only beautiful but the articles help keep us informed on what has happened and what will happen at our club. This is a part of communications we need to keep up.
Another part of communications is the website. At BBYC.org, please go to the calendar to keep up with activities you can participate in.
EVENTS AT BBYC: Since I last wrote, we’ve had some great events. We had a few rentals and BBYC mem-ber Katy Burns’ birthday was one of them. Many had a good time with food and drink. Tom and Katy brought in a band to top off the party.
Our annual All-You-Can-Eat Crab Feed was a success with 59 attending. As always Judy and Mike Muetz’s Seas Scouts did a wonderful job serving. The attendees also did a great job tipping. The money helps the Sea Scouts fund their group.
Another highlight was the February 2nd Super Bowl Party. While people watched the game, a combo team of Bill Roberts and Dan Abrams won the Chili Cook-Off. The only thing that could’ve been better for the day is if the 49ers had won.
Kim Crow put on a romantic Valentines Dinner with Paul Masotti and David Hayward on the BBQ cooking salmon and tri-tip.
I thank all the volunteers for making these events hap-pen. Without you nothing would happen at our club.
ARE YOU SOCIAL? Due to a busy work schedule and family obligations our social chair Jenn Mofeit- Valcher had to quit our club. Unfortunately, that left a hole in coordinating BBYC dinners and parties, so for now I’m taking care of this position. If you would like to take on

You also would get a lot of gratitude from those at the dinner. Next up, we need a volunteer to coordinate our April 4 member dinner. We also will need a dinner coordinator on April 18 when the Marin Yacht Club cruises in. CRUISE OUTS/CRUISE INS: You will see in the Calendar there are a number of Cruise Outs and Ins scheduled, and more to be scheduled later in the year. Let Mike Jennings, our BBYC Cruise Out Chair, know if you are interested and he will se

GRILLER RACE SERIES: Our Race Chair Gary Helms Is starting our every-other-Friday-night Griller Race Series starting April 3. After each race, a hearty dinner will be available. If you want to attend please let Gary know.
So, a lot is happening at your club. Dinners, cruise outs, cruise ins, and races. Oh, and one last new category. Our Director David Hayward is leading a Music Jam Session at the BBYC on April 11 at 6-8 pm. Please come to enjoy some good noise. Bring an instrument to join the jam session.

10 evenings of racing for boats 18 feet or longer on a course just outside Ballena Isle Marina. We compete on the honor system with skippers reporting their own finish times. After the race, winners are celebrated at the BBYC club house, where post-race food and drink are served.

Notes on the Origin & Evolution of BAD ATTITUDE CHILI By Dan Abrams and Bill Roberts*
The first known record of a recipe for this extraordinary delight appeared in Beer Magazine (July 1996) by Kit Anderson titled “Travels with Chiles.” A version of the original recipe and docu-mentation of the folklore about the unbelievable powers of this revered Bad Attitude Chili has been maintained for posterity in Dan’s special recipe archives right here on Dock A.
Dan’s copy of Bad Attitude Chili is more than a recipe—it includes claims of extraordinary powers of the Chili observed over the years. This Chili has been associated with changes in wea-ther patterns, the outcomes of Super Bowl scores, and even the deposing of minor dictators. There even have been claims this Chili is one of God’s great-est gifts to humans and that it is a basic food—one of four food groups along with coffee, bagels, beer, meat, onions and chili (four?).
It should be mentioned there are two legitimate styles of chili from the Great Southwest where Bad Attitude was born: Texas and New Mexico. The war between the states of New Mexico and Texas over who makes the better chili has been going on for the better part of the last century. You will get vastly differing opinions in Albuquerque and Austin as to which state makes the best. Our version is New Mexico Chili and is hands down superior.

The accomplishment was made possi-ble by Kit Anderson for publishing the original recipe and folklore, Karen Conway for assisting the prep and keeping Dan focused, and Brock and Jodie Roberts for furnishing the highest quality Chilis.
We look forward to facing challengers again next year, who best get busy now lining up special ingredients that might overtake the flavors and lingering warmth of Bad Attitude Chili. Good Luck!
* Dan and Bill are neighbors on Dock A of Ballena Isle Marina. They formed a partnership to com-pete and win. This article reveals the special ingredients and some of the mystery and folklore surrounding this extraordinary delight.
Its primary ingredient is Hatch Green Chili—raised in the Hatch Valley and carefully roasted and peeled. The Hatch Chilis can be complemented with Habanero and other varieties to change the overall flavor and heat but the main ingredient must be Hatch Chilis.
In addition to chilis, a heavy ingredient is meat: beef, pork, venison and other wild game (while respecting state and federal protections). The meat is usually sautéed in renderings of wild boar bacon (when available). A small amount of diced tomatoes is allowed but not enough to affect taste. Beans are not included but high-grade chili powder and various types of onions are.
When eating Bad Attitude Chili one experiences a flash of heat and extra- ordinary flavors followed by a lasting warm glow. The flavor is primarily that of the Hatch Chilis and is absolutely unique.
BBYC solicited entrees for the Feb. 2, 2020 Super Bowl Chili Contest and we entered as partners. We spent many hours carefully lining up ingredients and getting the preparations underway (with the help of Dan’s wife Karen). However, as the Super Bowl approached, an adequate supply of the main ingredient was not in view. Fortunately, Bill’s son Brock, a physicist in Albuquerque, came to the rescue with a supply of Hatch Chilis that he and his wife Jodie
