Objectives of Topic
Establish a domain specific body of knowledge for Reliability, Availability and Maintainability methods and tools to improve the efficiency of particle accelerator operation
J. Gutleber
1. Establish a set of common standards, methods and practices to analyse, specify and assess RAMS characteristics of particle accelerator systems and components
2. Train domain experts and Early Stage Researchers the essential practices to work towards a common baseline for reliability engineering in the accelerator community
3. Assess the feasibility for an open accelerator reliability information system data platform to improve the sustainability of research and industrial accelerator infrastructures
CERN, September 21, 2015 8

Open Reliability Information System
Training and Book of Knowledge
Establish a RAMS training package around- Terminology with examples- Best-practice methods with use-case examples- Guidelines suitable for application in particle-accelerator field- Courses
“Body of Knowledge”- Compilation of knowledge in modular and “easy to grasp” domain engineer- Usable as support for “daily work”- Part of standard CERN training curriculum (courses, e-training, certification)- Integration of modelling, simulation and assessment software tools
CERN, September 21, 2015 9
CERN Plan• Enlarge collaboration via MoU• With CERN QM group towards “official” training curriculum
and e-training course on basic terminology• EUCard3 to
• support of funding for additional trainings and meetings• Federate medical accelerator community and other research
labs to join the initiative and increase reach
• Test training in Spring 2016• Gathers use cases for training from real-world experience• Make training curriculum part of other projects
• E.g. Marie Curie Action under preparation on superconductivity and cryogenics
