Top 5 Tips – Lessons Learned…Top 5 Tips – Lessons Learned…
• Use automatic search engine features of your target companies.• Use Twitter and Facebook to get a job. (Twitter tells you in seconds of new job postings)
• Use LinkedIn more effectively. (You can add links or files to your profile.)
• Join Google groups.• Create your own Google website. (www.google.com/websiteoptimizer )• Use Youtube for supplemental training or download your elevator speech.
1. Learn how to better use the internet:
2. During face-to-face interviews do something extraordinary:
• Create presentation and have several hardcopies with you. When interviewer ask “What do you know about us?” or “Do you have any further questions for me?” Answer the question verbally then freak them out with your presentation hardcopy. It should contain the following:
Snapshot of company website pages and what you learned from it related to the job you are applying for.
Listing of all the job’s requirements against your qualifications. Roadmaps, reports, ideas you can share with them to
demonstrate how you will perform the job if given the opportunity. News release related to the job you are applying for to
demonstrate that you know what is happening in the marketplace.
• Add volunteer work and the skillset you used.
• Rewrite the top summary paragraph of resume to show a more general skillset with more buzzwords. (eg. Don’t indicate the industry that you worked at.)
• Don’t show date of completion on your educational background section.• Add bullet points with buzzwords after your top summary paragraph.• Memorize it and make sure you explain your accomplishment during the
interview but answer it in a way to demonstrate how it can help your new employer at the position you are trying to apply. IMPORTANT!!!
3. Update your resume and make the following changes:
4. Network with working people!
• Attend conventions or club meetings (eg. PMI, IEEE, Alumni, etc.)
