The first JLN Costing Collaborative meeting in Bangkok in January 2012 brought together policymakers and technical costing experts from 10 JLN countries to share experience, identify priority issues related to costing of health services for provider payment, and discuss common challenges.

The idea for the Costing Manual was born.

In-person meetings and virtual collaboration

A Core Working Group of the JLN Costing Collaborative met in person 3 times over two years to synthesize country experience

in a practical manual that bridges costing theory with practical, step by step guidance to address real world challenges in costing for provider payment. Need honest, professional collaborative work...and great facilitators!!

Building a community

The Costing Collaborative members reach out to each other for technical advice and resources.

The group organized a forum on experience with DRGs in Malaysia in December 2013, and is currently organizing a training-of-trainers for the JLN Costing Manual

• Sustaining and growing the Costing Collaborative with country ownership—Access Health, India

• Partnering with other countries and institutions to put the Costing Manual to use

• Replicating the collaborative, practical, country-driven approach
