ME TALK BY BRUCE MILLER
Bruce was born in California. His mother and two sisters live in the USA.
As a student he was always interested in Science but had no direction on what he wanted to do.
As with many kids who have no direction he ended up joining the Navy as an electronics technician
and worked on communications and radar. After a while he decided to try another field and
worked with ordnance explosives, similar to clearance divers in the Australian Navy. He had a
couple of deployments to Iraq and met his partner Elizabeth while both serving in Bahrain. Bruce
went regularly to the gym, spin class and pool where Elizabeth would also be and she made the
first move to introduce herself and as they say, the rest is history! After 19 years Bruce finally
retired from the USA Navy on 31 October 2011and followed Elizabeth to HMAS CERBERUS Victoria
were she was posted. Bruce was able to get a tourist visa to stay in Australia, went back to the
States to finalise everything and moved back to Australia. Bruce mentioned that one of the
questions when applying for the visa was whether he had any experience with explosives. His
answer was Dohh!.
During the time Bruce was in the Navy he was studying at university but it was hard to keep
continuity so he is still studying and completing a degree in maths through distance education in
the States and plans to work in the States for a period of time and would like to transfer to a
teaching position in Australia.
When Bruce and Liz attended our Australia Day BBQ last year a nice gentleman(Paul Roger)
approached them and talked about what Rotary is all about. Bruce had no idea about Rotary andthought we were all a bunch of crazies. A few weeks later he attended a wedding and met Anton
and Rosemary who also mentioned they were in Rotary. He thought he was being stalked. Anton
invited them to attend the Rotary birthday and thats when he was introduced to other Rotarians
from Jerra and after hearing about what Rotary is all about he became more involved.
Before joining Rotary, Bruce participated in the MS Swimathon and decided to join our club
because he loves what we do in the community.
I have to learn the Australian National Anthem??? How sweet is this? Liz and Bruce look so
young!! Is that compared to the rest of us?

ME TALK BY JUDE CRAWFORD
Jude started her Me talk armed with her toothbrush behind her ears and pencil in her mouth and
had a message for grandparents and parents. She can smile with a pencil in her mouth. When she
was 5yrs old she was so delighted on the arrival of her baby sister she got up on the table to draw
a picture and the pencil went up into her sinuses and that has been her nemesis for her whole lifes
journey.
Her father was in the military and was told that always put your toothbrush behind your ear in case
you fall in the mud so it wont get dirty.
That was the start of Judes Me talk.
Jude is the eldest of 4 children, 1 sister, and 2 brothers. Her father was in the military, mother was
a nursing sister and lived in South Perth.
She married and had three daughters who were all mad swimmers. Taking her girls swimming
regularly she decided to learn to swim at 38 and eventually became and AusSwim instructor and
taught kids to swim while her girls were at school.
Her children married and travelled all around Australia and her second daughter, married to a
military man was posted to Canberra and moved to Jerrabomberra, as did one of her swimming
students Tina. One of Judes goals was to travel around Australia. After some medical issues she
bought herself a 4 transit camper van and named her Betty Blue. For someone that had never
camped before, Jude has travelled all around Australia parking overnight on the side of the road
and of course visiting her daughter and other good friends in Jerra.
Jude is also a Rotarian and has visited over 55 Rotary Clubs in Australia, some more than once and
has travelled over 60,000klm with no flat tyres or broken windscreens. Has had some great bush
parties, singing and dancing during her travels. Jude has never camped in a Caravan park butprefers to park in a safe place under the stars.
Jude read us a book Kangaroo Plays its Didgeridoo which she reads to her grandchild and it
reminds her of her travels around Australia. Jude presented this book to Chris Hunter for the
school library.
We also heard the Jude had a relationship with none other than me back in Perth when I was in
high school down the street from Jude. Judes husband and my dad worked together and I used to
go to Judes house and help Jude look after her girls. A small world indeed.
Jude remembers what a beautiful child Mez was Reading to a fascinated audience
and wonders what happened???? and

David and I arrived at the markets just as the temperature hit 7 degrees. All good we smile, but by 9am the temp wasdown to 5 degrees and by 11am we had had rain bursts and little sunshine.
Bruce happily arrived for the second shift commencing at 8am (fine please sergeant), and was quickly put to work getting coffees, learning about parking protocols and the importance of a smiley face for the public when selling bagsand answering questions (even if we have no idea of what is happening).
The water being available for sale was appreciated by the public and the stall holders.
Good job Anne, thankyou!

Attendance was 80.8% and, unfortunately, I couldnt thInk of

Joker:
Another good job Anne. We are safe for yet another week. Terry Spencer artfully avoided picking
the joker and Jimmy Choo is really looking promising.
On asking Anne to send me the total for this weeks Joker, here is Annes response..
Hhmmm... Joker- I wasnt sure of the routIne, so dId leave the mulah in the file cabinet
however I could guess?? Say $30 give or take ???
Ummm. Sorry Anne, that would be a fine for our next meeting at the school.
IRISH. Compliments Pres Paul..Paddy and Mick found 3 hand grenades and decided to take them to the police station
Mick, "What if one explodes before we get there?"
Paddy, We'll lie and say we only found two!
A coach load of Paddies on a mystery tour decided to run a sweepstake to guess
where they were going. The driver won 52!
Paddy finds a sandwich with two wires sticking out of it. He phones the police and says, "Bejesas,
I've just found a sandwich dat looks like a bomb.
The operator asks, "Is it tickin? Paddy says, "No I tink it's beef."
Joe says to Paddy, "Close your curtains the next time you're making love to your wife. The whole
street was watching yesterday, and laughing at you.
Paddy says, "Well the joke's on them, stupid, because I wasn't even at home yesterday."
Mick walks into Paddy's barn and catches him dancing naked in front of a tractor. Mick says, "Oh,
no, Paddy, what ya doing?" Paddy says, "Well me and Mary haven't been getting on in the bedroom
lately and the therapist recommended I do something sexy to a tractor."
The Irish have solved their own fuel problems. They imported 50 million tons of sand from the
Arabs, and they're going to drill for their own oil.
Paddy says to Mick, " Chris tmas is on a Friday this year. Mick says, "Let's hope it's not the 13th."Paddy's in the bathroom and Murphy shouts to him. "Did you find the shampoo?" Paddy says, "Yes,
but it's for dry hair and I've just wet mine."
**************************************************************************************************************************

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club
based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of
mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on
18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in
numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at theJerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 18 Jun 2013 the Club has 28 members
11 female and 17 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 3 supporters of the Rotary Club.
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the
Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name;
Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the
windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
