At Jefferson we have two types of academic classes:

1) Content Areas: Reading, Writ ing, Math, Science, andSocial Studies

And …2) Special/Elect ives: Art , World Language, Media,Physical and Health Educat ion, and vocal music

At Jefferson, we house three types of Special Educationprograms. These programs are for students who needaddit ional support . This is not your grandparents specialeducat ion –our kids and teachers achieve great things!

In-Class Support : Teacher is in regular class to help thestudents who need support

Resource Room: Students are pulled out in subjects that theyneed more support (ELA/ Math) but remain included in all

other subjects.LLD –Learning/ Language Disabil ity (Mild/ Moderate studentsare placed in a classroom with extra support and smaller classsizes to help them in core subjects. They are mainst reamed

in all specials and school activities.

Students in our bilingual program rotate English and Spanish

weeks to be immersed in both languages. This method has ledto dual language skills and advanced application skills accordingto research studies. This is available K-5

ESL is available for students who need extra English

development support.

Help students develop

vocabulary. Once a word isdiscussed or learned duringMTP or a mini-lesson in anupper grade, t he word isadded to a word wall . These

can be by content or subj ector by use of the word (morediff icult words are “ j uicy”words or t ier 2 or 3 words,regular words are “ high

frequency” words. Students“ t rack” these words on the

word wall for use in futurewriting.
