Latest innovations in ceramic tile production and digital printing

application

Traditional tile factory

Raw mineral sand is added to the body (Clay) to increase whiteness

Ceramic process that require mineral sand

Frit and compost are used on Glazing and Decoration state

Ceramic process that require mineral sand

Changes that have happened,

From 2000, inkjet changed decoration process

Now, big size tiles are becoming popular

Digital glazing and 3D are being developed

and changes that will happen in tile factory industry

changes that are happening

Traditional decoration

Silkscreen

Rotocolor

Inkjet decoration

Printer

One bar, one color

Inkjet does not need serigraphy…

The consumption of serigraphy is lower

Color development and whiteness depends on better glaze

… but glazes need to be better

Changes that have happened,

From 2000, inkjet changed decoration process

Now, big size tiles are becoming popular

Digital glazing and 3D are being developed

and changes that will happen in tile factory industry

changes that are happening

The biggest change on the production line happen on the press

Big size tile factories are opening continuously

Big size tile factories are opening continuously

The press and glaze

technology is already working

Big size tile factories are opening continuously

This tiles can come with

structure, any design and

special effects

Body need higher raw material quality and stability…

…but formulas are common ones

…but the industry objective is to lower the amount of glaze per sqm

Glazes need more whiteness and opacifier…

Changes that already happen, changes that are happening

and changes that will happen

From 2000, inkjet changed decoration process

Now, big size tiles are becoming popular

Digital glazing is being developed

The objective of the industry is to have a 100% digital printing

ceramic line

All steps would be digital: glaze, decoration and protection layer, all applied using print heads

The digital glaze, ink and protection are developed and already on the market

The structure (3D) will also be given digitally through solid

material print heads

Mineral sands consumption:Will go up, or down?

Inkjet? Less serigraphy against white ink

Big size tiles? Same on body, same on glaze

Full digital line? Should not change anything

Big changes are not expected

Researching for better quality will be essential…

…but volumes will be the same

Thank you for your time
