IC H & CD Source SystemIC H & CD Source System
The Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating System is meant for accessing H-mode operation at Q=10, tritium 2nd
harmonic at 53 MHz
Heating power ~ 20MW, also is expected to contribute some fraction of current drive (there is a range 35-65 MHz)
Wall conditioning
One prototype + Eight sources; about 2.5/source made using amplifier chains, DAC, Auxiliary PS etc.

IC H & CD Source SystemIC H & CD Source System
Wide band LPA (300 W), 3 tube-powered tuned stage: a pre-driver (~20 kW), driver stage (~150 kW) & end stage (1.3 MW)
All power stages: mechanically adjustable I/P and O/P cavities
System operates:Class AB/B
• 2.5 MW CW with VSWR 2• 35 – 65 MHz• ∆f (1 dB):
±1 MHz• Harmonic level < 20 dB
• ηelectrical >65% • τshutdown <10µs
• No single tube exists as per ITER requirement • Two independent chain of amplifiers & a combiner will be used

Major Design Drives:
• Constant CW output power with variable loads (S = 2.0)
• Tube’s VSWR handling capability
• Wide band operation for the entire chain
• Frequency deviation over any central frequency at 1dB point: ± 1 MHz
• System tuning within 180 s for f > 2 MHz
Each multistage amplifier: should be operated independently with max. capability & safety and also in synchronization with ITER main control system

A Typical ContractA Typical Contract
Plenary session - A. Mukherjee
• A “Multi-step Procurement Contract” is announced/advertised
– Study & Comprehension; Design Optimization; Prototyping/Feasibility study, Final Award
• Step-1: Expression-Of-interest (EOI) is invited for bidding
– Vendor selection criteria: Record of sufficiently large contracts in similar area, Proof of similar currently working systems, Codes & Standards, etc
• Step-2: Pre-bid Conference:
– Introduce and Explain scope of work
• Step-3: Vendor Comprehension Evaluation
– After a reasonable gap of time (~ 1.5 - 2 months)
– On the basis of presentations before an expert committee
• Step-4: Select promising vendors for procurement optimization from anintegrated point of view: manufacturing, shipping, assembly, schedule/cost etc
– On a ranking scheme announced in the Conference
• Step-5: Evaluate performance in (4) above and also innovative suggestions on fabrication feasibility, cost optimization, delivery milestones, etc
• Step-6: Shortlist a few, if needed, for actual work on prototype; to prove that specs can be met
– Technical Qualification Round
• Step-7: Price-bid
• Step-8: Award on appropriate basis of combination of price and technical competence
