Being MSPO certified is never the end but beginning of a sustainable business in Malaysian oil palm industry.
MSPO certification ensures that the production of oil palm is sustainable to supply the world market responsible
palm oils. As land is finite and human population is growing rapidly, it is important to ensure that the use of lands
is sustainable. In view of this, Malaysian Oil Palm industry’s response is positive and prompts – MSPO Certifica-
tion. More and more industrial players are moving towards MSPO Certification and DQS Malaysia has certified
another 2 organizations for this sustainable scheme. To show DQS’ Commitment For Sustainability, DQS Malay-
sia is proud to have Managing Director of DQS Holding, Mr. Michael Drechsel to present the MSPO Certificates to

The Only MSPO Lead Auditor Course Recognized in the World !
Numerous enquiries are storming in after successful delivery of world’s first session of Malaysian Sustainable
Palm Oil (MSPO) MS 2530:2013 Lead Auditor Course by DQS Certification (M) Sdn. Bhd. in January 2015. The
second session of this course was again planned and conducted in May 2015 in responds to the industry requests.
And now, it has been elevated to the ONLY MSPO LEAD AUDITOR COURSE recognized by the governing body
– MPOB.
Participants from Oil Palm Industry (Ta Ann Holdings Berhad, JC Chang Group, Sime Darby Plantation, Sabah
Softwoods Berhad, Achi Jaya Sdn. Bhd.) and Refinery (Neste Oil) fully enjoyed the benefits of this course which
according to Dr. Ainie (Senior Research Fellow of Food Safety and Codes of Practice Certification Unit, Product
Development & Technical Advisory Services Division) of MPOB that it is recognized as a qualification course to be
a MSPO Auditor. Participants also acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to proficiently plan and perform
internal and external audits in compliance with ISO 19011 and the certification process according to ISO 17021.
Based on practical exercises, the participants developed the skills (mastering audit techniques) and competencies
(managing audit teams and audit program, communicating with customers, conflict resolution, etc.) necessary to
efficiently conduct an audit. As usual, effectiveness of the training needs to be assessed and for this course, it was
evaluated by the examination undertaken during the last session of the course.

of Food Safety and Codes of Practice Certification Unit, Product Development & Technical Advisory Services Division).
Turtle or sea turtle is a protected marine biota. There are six
species of turtle living in Indonesian waters. The Natural Tour-
ism Park (TWA) of Black Water is one of the ideal habitats for
turtle nesting because the site of 17 km long is located on the
west coast of Sumatra Island and directly in contact with the In-
dian Ocean. In this area there are four species of sea turtles:
Green Turtle, Hawksbill, Lekang turtles and Belimbing turtles.
According to IUCN (2013), the status of the turtles are respec-
tively endangered (threatened to extinction), critically endan-
gered, endangered (threatened to extinction) and vulnerable to
extinction). Currently, the threats to sea turtles are the trading of
turtle eggs and the coastal change into plantations.
Sustainability being interpret based from broader views. DQS Auditor were witnessing a CSR program of turtle
care conservation funded by client, PT Agro Muko (Sipef Group) at The Natural Tourism Park (TWA) of Black
Water. PT Agro Muko (Sipef Group) has been ISCC certified since 2013. ISCC is another sustainability scheme
for palm oil industries offered in the market.
Humanity is about mutual respect of living. Human need to be educated for valuing their surrounds. Non-formal
education through this activity will develop future generation care about environmental and its sustainability.

The nature of work in plantations, as in the case of many agriculture settings, creates many challenges, hazards
and risks in the working environment. Workers are often exposed to various kinds of work safety and health haz-
ards including mechanical, chemical, physical, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards. The Malaysian Government
through the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) under the Ministry of Human Resources is
encouraging planters to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) by making mandatory the requirements for
safety and health policy and the safety and health committee. Besides this, planters are also required to introduce
self regulations such as self safety and health auditing, risk assessment and control and the mechanisation of
their work processes. With respect to the law, employers and employees have an obligatory role in ensuring
safety and health in their workplace. DOSH on the other hand is continuously monitoring OSH in this industry via
audits and inspections. Lack of awareness in terms of the need to properly manage safety and health at the work-
place is apparent, especially in smallholdings. However, with the continuous efforts of DOSH combined with the
efforts from various partners, it is believed that OSH in the agriculture industry is moving forward.
