Protecting theEnvironment isa Religious Duty
Islam urges all people to protect theenvironment and calls them not to polluteor spoil it. An example o this would be theprohibition o urinating or deecating inthe street, or throwing garbage, carcasses, industrial wastes and suchlike into waterbecause doing so causes much harm to man, animals and the environment.
Prophet Muhammad ounded a veryimportant legal rule when he said:
No harm shall be inicted or reciprocated in Islam.
(Ahmad)
Islam commands its ollowers to
adhere to standards o righteous
actions and good manners. Among
such good behaviours is protecting
the environment, which results in
benefts or individuals and society.
And the grazing livestock He has created or you;
in them is warmth and [numerous] benets, androm them you eat.
(Quran 16:5)
And it is He who subjected the sea or you toeat rom it tender meat and to extract rom itornaments which you wear. And you see the shipsplowing through it, and [He subjected it] thatyou may seek o His bounty; and perhaps youwill be grateul.
(Quran 16:14)
We can see what damage is caused to
the environment when we dont look
ater our surroundings and respect
them. By applying the aith o Islam
to our lives we will see improvements
being made or both this generation
and those generations to come.
