What is included in project?

1) Repaving the runway

2) New runway lights and other safety-related systems

3) New combined services building (CSB)

4) New airport terminal building (ATB)

Why does Iqaluit need a new airport?

• Runway has reached end of life-cycle

• Terminal can no longer handle volume of traffic

• Increasingly difficult to meet safety standards

• Combined Services Building too small

Statistics

• One of the largest private sector employers

• More than 20,000 aircraft movements in 2012

• 30 % of all aircraft activity in Nunavut

• Current passenger numbers exceed 140,000

• More than 40 % of all Nunavut travelers get on or off planes in Iqaluit

Inuit Involvement

• Mandatory minimum requirements for Inuit firms and Inuit labour

• Strong emphasis on Inuit training
