WHAT IS NAVCAD?

A resistance and propulsion prediction software

Navcad is a valuable tool for naval architects interested in resistance and

propulsion predictions of ships

• There is a large library of prediction methods available (notes on

each method are available in help menu)

• Methods allow for quick computation of R and P Data

• Like all predictive analysis, one must be aware of the potential error

between the case being examined and the model being applied

• An excellent tool for initial design estimates of the resistance and

power requirement of a vessel.

TUTORIAL EXERCISE

Preform a preliminary resistance prediction using Navcad for the model that will

be used in the open resistance lab this semester. Plot RT vs. V and CT,CR,CF vs.

Fn for the prediction. This can be compared to the values predicted in the lab

later. Use the following data to inform your prediction.
