Different types of shots are used in combination to give you information about where and when something is happening, the role of a character or their reactions, to draw attention to something or to create an impression or feeling.

What are the names of some shots that you already know?

Long ShotLong Shot (LS)

This is a shot that shows a person from the top of their head to their feet

Why is this shot used?

Medium ShotMedium Shot (MS)

THis is a shot that show a person from the waist up. Often there can be more than one person in the shot (two Shot)

For what reason would you use this shot?

Close upClose Up (CU)

THis is a shot that shows a person face from about the shoulders up

Why would you use a close up?

High Angle ShotThis is where the camera is placed above the object, looking down on the subject.

What is the effect of this shot?

Low Angle ShotTHis is where the camera is placed below the object, looking up at it.
