Intro to Anatomy Jeopardy

Jeopardy Rules:

1. A question and point value is chosen, and everyone will answer it on whiteboards.

2. No time limits, within reason.

3. Once your answer is written, turn your board upside down and wait for the rest of the class.

4. Everyone reveals answers together.

5. If you’re right, you get the full points. If you’re wrong, you get 0 points.

True or False: “Anatomy” means the same thing as “Physiology.”

False.

Muscle fibers are made up of actin and myosin filaments. Is this an

example of anatomy or physiology?

Anatomy.

One of the themes of an anatomy and physiology course is this,

defined as “how the body maintains a dynamic state of equilibrium.”

What is homeostasis?

Describe an example from anywhere (not just the body) of a relationship

between form and function.

(A variety of answers are possible!)

Describe an example of physiology.

(A variety of examples are possible. A correct answer

describes something to do with HOW the body works, not just

WHAT it’s made of.)

True or False: A molecule, by definition, must be made up of at

least two atoms.

True.

True or False: Atoms are larger than cells.

False.

A tissue is an ensemble of these, which together carry out a very

specific function.

What are cells?

Name one level of organization that is larger (or “more

macroscopic in scope”) than a tissue.

Correct answers include: Organ, Organ System, Organism.

Name all seven levels of organization, in order. (Note which end of the list is smallest and which

is largest.)

From smallest to largest:Atom, molecule, cell, tissue, organ,

organ system, organism.

True or False: The human body can survive with just about any body

temperature.

False.

Name two survival needs of the human body.

Choose from: nutrients, oxygen, water, body temperature,

atmospheric pressure.

Name three functions that the human body must perform to maintain life.

Choose from: movement, responsiveness/irritability,

digestion, metabolism, excretion, reproduction, growth.

When the body detects high levels of blood sugar, it releases the hormone insulin, which causes cells to uptake

glucose from the bloodstream. In terms of homeostatic control systems, insulin is called this.

What is the effector?

Increasingly severe uterine contractions in the labor and

delivery of an infant is an example of this kind of

homeostatic feedback loop.

What is positive?

True or False: An organ can only function as part of one organ system. It cannot perform functions relevant

to two or more systems.

False.

The stomach is an organ in this organ system.

What is the digestive system?

Identify an organ in the nervous system.

Answers may include: Brain, spinal cord, nerves.

Identify a function of the urinary system.

Answer may be one of the following: eliminating nitrogenous waste,

regulating water and electrolytes, or maintaining acid-base balance.

The purple organs pictured are these, while the blue organ pictured is that.

What are: lungs and trachea?

The heart is an organ in this organ system.

What is the cardiovascular system?

Skin is an organ in this organ system.

What is the integumentary system?

Identify a function of the muscular system.

Answer may be one of these: Allows movement, maintains posture,

generates heat.

The organ system pictured is this.

The endocrine system.

Returning fluids to blood vessels and disposing of cellular debris are two

functions of this system.

What is the lymphatic system?
