Safety has improved as the total loss accidents is significantly reduced

Shipping losses have declined by 45% over the past decade

For tankers in particular the improvement is even greater – and the amount of oil spills have shown a large improvement

Common Structural Rule (CSR) tankers… Do they crack? Already ?

CSR was implemented 1st of April 2006

Design standard improved with CSR Rules (25 years in the North Atlantic)

The first CSR tankers are now 8 years old – so the experience data is limited

Still cracks are found…
