Wendy’s Welcome
Hello and welcome to the 2018 Symposium, Insight & Knowledge: Improving The Breast Cancer Journey. I started Be Uplifted Inc with my best friend Barb after we both struggling financially through our breast cancer treatments. We both felt isolated and just didn’t have any understanding of the process or the realities of what breast cancer entailed. I was a single mum at the time and was not financially or emotionally prepared for the journey I was about to go on. I understand firsthand just how difficult it is to get the right information and advice about treatment options. Holding this event has been a long-held dream of mine. I believe it is especially important that information about care and wellbeing is shared in the community, so that every person on a breast cancer journey has the best possible treatment outcome. And this includes not just understanding the medical treatment choices available to them, but also options for enhancing physical and emotional wellbeing during this difficult time. I encourage everyone here today to soak up the resources in the room. Take notes; don’t be afraid to ask questions and above all don’t forget to have a bit of fun. Finally, there are so many people I would like to thank. I would like to thank all of the hard-working volunteers who have given up their time to make today happen, and especially Cr Fiona King, Kedron Wavell Services Club, Westpac Bank and CommBank, plus the speakers and guests who offered their time to provide information and resources today.
