Agenda

• Is there a purpose of healing?

• Salutogenesis

• Historical development of homeopathy

• Fundamental perspectives of knowing

• Universal layers

• Inspiring homeopathic remedies

Reflection Questions

• In what ways are illness and healing alike? Different?

• Does my own growth impact my work with clients?

• How does homeopathy offer a means for greater wholeness and resilience?

Why provide healing?

The purpose of the therapy is no longer to obtain a stable healthy state ……rather to engage in a process of growth on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

• Tinus Smits

Is there a purpose for illness?

• Loss of balance is an invitation to grow, strengthen and resolve deeper issues:

• attain a higher energetic level

• become more conscious

• understand the purpose of

life more fully

What is salutogenesis?

• The creation of health or fostering of healing

• By contrast, pathogenesis refers to the creation or development of disease

• Aaron Antonovsky, PhD

• Increase healing resources

What is healing?

• Healing involves an entirely different set of factors: – Coping mechanisms

– Increased host resistance

– Increased adaptive responses

– A greater sense of coherence

– Increased resilience

The Healing Process

Healing comes through an observable sequence of events grounded in the capability of human beings to comprehend, manage, and meaningfullycope with challenges and threats, marshaling the body’s innate resources for restoring equilibrium and strengthening resistance.

What are the stages of healing?

• Cognitive appraisal

• Enhanced psychological competence

• Moderation or buffering of health threat

• Strengthening of one’s physical constitution

• Amelioration of the disease or risk of further illness

Tinus Smits

At a certain moment in the life of a homeopath, progress is no longer made by studying more small or new remedies but by working on his (or her) personality, enabling him to go more deeply into his own energy as well as the patients.

1946 – 2010

Historical development

• Premodern– Vitalism

– Organon of Healing

– Classical Homeopathy

– “Cures”• Hahnemann

• Kent

• Modern– Scientific

– Evidence based

– Empirical

– Statistical success• MacRepertory

• Homeopathic Research

Post-modern

• Pluralistic

• Interpretive

• Incorporating essence and shadow– Whitmont

– Vithoulkas

– Scholten

Going beyond

• Recognize the value of all three levels

• Take three fundamental perspectives

• Focus on growing as a healer

• Be salutogenic

• Value community

Fundamental perspectives

• 3rd Person – Study of materia medica

– Use of the repertory

– Clinical cured cases

• Looking at homeopathy and learning

• Objective

• 2nd person – Schools of thought

– Working with a mentor

– Study groups

• Dialogue with teachers, colleagues, and patients

• Intersubjective

• 1st Person– My personal experience

– My clients

– My understanding

• I have an experience of homeopathy

• Subjective

Experiential

Next Stage..

Out of all these experiences grew the conviction that different aspects of the human being are layers and can be treated one after another.

This gave me the key to the understanding of what Hahnemann had tried to explain by his theory of miasms.

-Smits

Levels of healing

• Accidental Layers (gross)– Vaccination, accidents, trauma

• Constitutional (subtle)– Constitutional prescribing

• Universal (causal)– The Inspiring Homeopathy

system

Self-development

To prescribe according to the insights of Inspiring Homeopathy, it is absolutely necessary that the homeopath has done personal work in the emotional and spiritual field and has himself gone through the different universal layers.

Dialectal Process

The choice of the remedy is of vital importance for the successful treatment of the patient, but cannot be considered as isolated from the interaction between the homeopath and the patient during the consultation.

Salutogenic

Understanding the nature of the universal layer allows the healing dynamics of homeopathy to skillfully enhance growth and development for both the patient and the practitioner.

How is the session significant?

• During the consultation the homeopath is dis-covering the nature of the client.

• We make understandable what has to be healed

• By recognizing what needs to be healed we prepare the client to receive the remedy

Motivation?

The most compelling part of this method is that the patient can be helped further after an initial successful start of the homeopathic treatment on the individual level.

Universal layers

• Fully incarnating

• Strengthening boundaries

• Strengthening consciousness

• Fully loving oneself

• Releasing trauma

• Integrating shame

• Fully connecting with one’s soul

Inspiring remedies

• Lac maternum

• Vernix caseosa

• Carcinosinum

• Cuprum metallicum

• Carcinonsinum cum cuprum

• Saccharum officinalis

• Rhus toxicodendron

• Anacardium orientale

• Hydrogenium

Reflection Questions

• In what ways are illness and healing alike? Different?

• Does my own growth affect my work with clients?

• How does homeopathy offer a means for greater wholeness and resilience?
