• 1/3 the size of U.S.A.• 2nd largest population in

the world– 1.2 billion people– 4 X U.S. population

• Population is growing rapidly and India is expected to be the largest by 2025.

• Approx. 72% are rural; 28% urban…however this is shifting.

• People are moving from rural to urban areas in search of jobs.

• 43 cities with over 1 million people – 9 in the U.S.

• 11 over 3 million – 2 in the U.S.

• 2 over 10 million (Mumbai and Delhi)– 0 in the U.S.

• High birth rate (average person is having multiple children)

• Low death rate due to better medical technology (more children survive at birth, people live longer)

• Population declines when more people are dying than being born.
