In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
Inspiration
Inspired by Arctic Monkeys, Favourite Worst Nightmare as it was very entropic, colourful and random and Beady Eye, Different Gear, Still Speeding as it had a natural colour scheme with an old style feel and some focus on the band.
Chosen not be like Coldplay, Yellow as they use natural surroundings and I have used urban surroundings.
Inspired by The View, Same Jeans as it closely links the performance and narrative and Kasabian, LSF as it has a natural colour scheme and live band.
The Beatles, A Hard Days Night Album
The Cellar Bar
The Cavern Club
Audience research
The focus group during planning said they liked the colour scheme of red, white and blue. I decided to bring out the reds, whites and blues in the digipak for this reason.
They also liked the setting for the video. Unfortunately, I could not film there but chose a similar place.
They also liked the casting, and although some of the minor cast let us down, I kept the main cast and band.
Entropy Redundancy Steve Neale- Audiences take pleasure from genre because of “instances of repetition and difference”
I used entropy in the digipak as it can be common feature for indie albums and would appeal to the target audience.
I chose to show the band playing live in the digipak and video because it is a main feature for the indie genre. I also wanted to show that the most important aspect of the band and genre is the music.
A love story within an indie music video is quite entropic because usually the plot is purely live music or something very random.
Forms and conventions• I tried to follow Indie forms and conventions by focusing on
music and the band.• My focus group said they understood the video and digipak
were indie which shows this was successful.• I have also slighty challenged forms and conventions by
mixing the indie partying lifestyle with a love story.• My focus group did not mention if they thought this was
good or not.• I think indie fans will like this mix of following and
challenging forms and conventions whereas others may find this boring.
