• The Regulations to the Immigration Law has to be published in the following 6 months.

• Regulations to the General Population Law will apply until the new regulations are published.

Immigration Law• The law has 8 sections and 21 chapters.• First Section: General issues and a

description of the immigration policy.• Second Section: Rights and obligations of

Migrants.• Third Section: Immigration authorities

Immigration Law• Fourth Section: International Movement of

People and the presence of Foreigners in Mexico.

• Fifth Section: Protection of Migrants traveling through Mexico.

• Sixth Section: Migratory Administrative Procedure.

Immigration Law• Seventh Section: Sanctions.• Eight Section: Crimes.

Immigration Law - Highlights• Migrants are given equal rights

independently of their status.• Education, health services family unity is

guaranteed to migrants.• Special attention will be given to children

and adolescents.• More than 30 different type of immigration

status are substituted by 3.

Immigration Law - Highlights• Visitor: To be in the country for less than

180 days, such as tourist or business related activities. 6 different categories.

• Temporary Residence: For those who want to remain in the country for less than 4 years; students are included.

• Permanent Resident: For those who want to remain in Mexico indefinitely.

Immigration Law - Highlights• Includes a list of documents that a

foreigner or Mexican citizen must show to the immigration officials upon entering the country.

• If there any doubt on the authenticity of the documents presented to proof Mexican citizenship, immigration officials cannot held any person for more than 4 hours.

Immigration Law - Highlights• Wait for the Regulations to confirm what

needs to be done with the FMM (former FM3s).

• Wait for new rules to issue the different visas.
