WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIPL: Blessed be the Lord,

C: The giver of law!

L: Blessed be the Lord,

C: The maker of promises!

L: Blessed be the Lord,

C: The author of peace!

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESSL: We confess our sins before God and one another.

Pause for silence and reflection.

P: Creator God,

C: We have given you so many reasons to grieve. We

disrespect your creation. We long for personal glory,

material riches and other things which don’t last. We

mistreat ourselves and each other. We forget the

power of your promises. We ask your forgiveness,

counting on your never-failing mercy, in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

P: God’s covenant is eternal and the promise is

trustworthy: you are forgiven and belong to the

communion of saints forever. Rejoice and be glad. Amen.

Crown Him with Many CrownsELW #855

Crown him with many crowns,

the Lamb upon his throne;

hark, how the heav’n-ly anthem drowns

all music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing

of him who died for thee,

and hail him as thy matchless king

through all eternity.

Crown him the virgin’s Son,

the God incarnate born,

whose arm those crimson trophies won

which now his brow adorn;

fruit of the mystic rose,

yet of that rose the stem,

the root whence mercy ever flows,

the babe of Bethlehem.

Crown him the Lord of love –

behold his hands and side,

rich wounds, yet visible above,

in beauty glorified.

No angels in the sky

can fully bear that sight,

but downward bend their burning eyes

at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of life,

who triumphed o’er the grave

and rose victorious in the strife

for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing,

who died and rose on high,

who died, eternal life to bring,

and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of years,

the potentate of time,

creator of the rolling spheres,

ineffably sublime.

All hail, Redeemer, hail!

For thou hast died for me;

thy praise and glory shall not fail

throughout eternity.

GREETINGP: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C: And also with you.

HYMN OF PRAISE

Create in Me a Clean Heart

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right spirit within me.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy presence, O Lord,

and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,

and renew a right spirit within me.

PRAYER OF THE DAYP : Holy Lord,

C: You rejoice when your people are faithful. Guide

us in all wisdom and keep us close to your heart as

we navigate these days and the challenges which

come our way. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Rediscovering the Word of the Lord

READING 2 KINGS 22:16-23:3Thus says the Lord, I will indeed bring disaster on this

place and on its inhabitants—all the words of the book

that the king of Judah has read. Because they have

abandoned me and have made offerings to other gods,

so that they have provoked me to anger with all the work

of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against

this place, and it will not be quenched. But as to the

king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus

shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord, the God of

Israel: Regarding the words that you have heard,

because your heart was penitent, and you humbled

yourself before the Lord, when you heard how I spoke

against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they

should become a desolation and a curse, and because

you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also

have heard you, says the Lord. . Therefore, I will gather

you to your ancestors, and you shall be gathered to your

grave in peace; your eyes shall not see all the disaster

that I will bring on this place.” They took the message

back to the king.

Then the king directed that all the elders of Judah and

Jerusalem should be gathered to him. The king went up

to the house of the Lord, and with him went all the

people of Judah, all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the

priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and

great; he read in their hearing all the words of the book

of the covenant that had been found in the house of the

Lord.

The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before

the Lord, to follow the Lord, keeping his

commandments, his decrees, and his statutes, with all

his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this

covenant that were written in this book. All the people

joined in the covenant.

L: THE WORD OF THE LORD,

C. THANKS BE TO GOD.

APOSTLE’S CREEDI believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven

and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He

was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of

the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On

the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and

is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again

to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the

resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
