XIII. SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I have made meaningful contributions to the department by teaching several agronomy
courses related to my discipline. In addition, I have significantly contributed to the General
Education Program by teaching five sections of Foundations of Inquiry (IDS 100). I have
implemented significant revisions of several courses (AGR 150, AGR 251, AGR 304, AGR 305,
AGR 306, and AGR 355) to better address the needs of undergraduate and graduate students at
Illinois State University. I have developed one new course (AGR 363 – Agricultural Statistics) to
enhance our student’s ability to analyze and understand statistics related to agronomy.
Since 1995, I have co-authored a total of $ 1,493,778 (cash awarded) in external grants to
support my research agenda (refer to vita for complete list). I have published 7 peer-reviewed
manuscripts and 5 editorially-reviewed manuscripts. I have presented or co-presented 40
abstracts at internationally-attended professional meetings (refer to vita for complete list). I have
implemented a comprehensive, nationally recognized research program with emphasis on
fertility management techniques (like solid-separated liquid swine manure composted with urban
landscape waste, mainly leaves) that promote environmental awareness. It is important to note
that this has been done without any graduate students or technicians; rather undergraduates have
played a very significant role in my research program. I have implemented a comprehensive,
nationally recognized research program for corn and soybean production with emphasis on
fertilizer management techniques that promote environmental awareness while optimizing crop
productivity.
In addition to my University service (refer to vita for complete list), I have been actively
involved with service activities to the community. I have worked with the local agriculture
programs, Boy Scouts of America, and Unit 5 Citizen Advisory Council. I have also provided
significant service to my professional societies as an associate editor for my professional
society’s education journal, division chair for education in my professional society, and served
on a program evaluation team for a collegiate agronomy program.
