ICASSI  2008  Gyor,  Hungary  

Faculty  members  and  participants  who  attended  the  41st  ICASSI  in  Gyor,  Hungary  were  delighted  with  the  location  in  the  charming  western  Hungarian  city  of  Gyor.    The  city  is  nestled  on  the  banks  of  the  historic  Danube  

and  Raba  rivers  approximately  one  and  a  half  hours  from  Vienna,  Bratislava,  and  Budapest.    The  city  is  home  to  a  remarkable  array  of  architectural,  cultural  and  natural  treasurers.      It  has  won  the  “Europe  Award”  for  the  protection  of  its  historic  buildings  and  for  reconstruction  of  the  Baroque  center  of  the  town.  

Week  1  Participants    

Three  hundred  and  twenty-­‐five  participants  from  twenty-­‐five  countries  and  thirty-­‐one  faculty  members  from  North  American  and  Eastern,  Western,  and  Central  Europe  studied  and  recreated  in  this  remarkably  attractive  

environment.    The  local  Adlerian  organization,  led  by  Irena  and  Kinga  Bencze,  helped  participants  expand  their  cultural  knowledge  of  the  area  by  arranging  Hungarian  and  gypsy  music  and  dancing  along  with  a  performance  by  the  Gyor  Ballet.    Side  trips  were  organized  to  the  world  heritage  cathedral  in  Pannonhalma;  to  the  largest  

freshwater  lake  in  Central  Europe,  Lake  Balaton;  as  well  as  to  the  cities  of  Budapest,  Bratislava,  and  Vienna.    Since  July  is  a  festival  month  in  Gyor,  the  town  square  and  market  places  were  frequently  filled  with  music  and  dance  and  attractive  food.  

The  local  Adlerian  organization  had  done  an  excellent  job  of  attracting  professionals  from  western  Hungary  

to  ICASSI  by  virtue  of  arranging  courses  taught  by  visiting  Adlerians  in  the  years  immediately  prior  to  hosting  ICASSI  in  Gyor.  

A  variety  of  housing  choices  were  provided  to  participants  including  the  Hotel  Famulus,  one  of  the  finest  

hotels  in  the  city.    One  of  the  very  attractive  features  of  this  ICASSI  was  the  large  number  of  participants  from  Central  and  Eastern  Europe  who  participated  in  the  institute  and  then  shared  what  they  learned  with  

colleagues  across  this  region  of  Europe.      (Week  2  Participants  below)
