interviews, etc.) and stories are shaped. Step 3: Editors decide where stories will

be placed/layout created. Step 4: Editors look for weaknesses, fact-

checkers verify truth, copy-editors fix grammar and style issues, headlines and captions are created.

Step 5: Design and layout artists place articles and graphics on the website.

Step 6: Proofreaders complete a final check.

Step 7: An editor gives his final approval.

Step 8: The articles are published on the website!

Goal: Attract the largest audience possible

Larger audience=higher advertising rate=more $$$ (balance cost of hiring editors and computer science specialists to update your site)

Subscriptions and newsstand sales

You need to decide who you want YOUR audience to be.

Then, you’ll have to choose a variety of hard and soft news stories (as well as advertisements and “extras”) that is appropriate for your target audience.
