iPads In The ClassroomSuggestions for accommodating

multi-user and one-to-one Ipad use in the classroom

Created by Melissa Kittleson (EDU707)

Introduction: Within this research, you can expect to find

applications, activities, and lessons designed for use in a first grade classroom.

I will transition through the process of one-to-one implementation that my district has proposed.

Most of the ideas and resources I have collected are from other schools and teachers.

Real life examples with real life results.

Single Ipad use in the classroom

(1 tablet)

(Toshinori) (Thomas)

(Storyrobe Inc.)

Simply Record

Use the simple recording capabilities of the iPad for reflection of growth over time. Have more advanced students turn multiple recordings into videos.

(Toshinori)

Tens Frame Use this app for

whole group quick images (subitizing). This activity can help with number recognition, addition/subtraction, and the relationship between them.

(Thomas)

Storyrobe Use the free app

Storyrobe to narrate a slideshow of photos. Students can individually record their voices to describe their picture or photo. Put all student descriptions together for the creation of a collaborative book or story.

Storia Create personalized

student or group bookshelves with books chosen by the teacher.

All books include a built in dictionary.

Books with learning activities can be chosen to aid in the practice of comprehension.

(Scholastic)

QR Code Generator The generator app,

allows the teacher to be able to give direction and guidance without actually having to physically be with a group.

The QR Code can be used as a shortcut to directions, websites, videos, tutorials, etc…

(Kanzelsberger)

Scan When loaded onto

the iPad students can scan a premade QR Code for short cuts to directions, activities, websites, videos, etc…

One-to-one Ipad use in the classroom

(18-20 tablets)

(TechSmith)(Blank Page Innovations Private Limited)

Croak.it! Easy to use, free

audio clip recording app.

Use with first graders to create book talks, similar to the upper elementary version of the traditional book report.

(Blank Page Innovations Private Limited)

ScreenChomp An app that allows you

to write or sketch, record, and share.

Allows teachers to create tutorials that can be viewed whenever needed. Also allows students to get help on homework through sharing written and spoken issues with teacher or peers.

(TechSmith Corp.)

Conclusion: The goal of this research was to gather ideas and

tools that I could use to improve student achievement with the use of Ipads in my classroom. • In my opinion, student achievement is in the eye of the

beholder, and cannot be attributed to any one activity, tool, or teacher.

• I know that not all of my students will show achievement on a standardized test. I do know however, that each of them will be learning in my classroom and personally improving with regards to some aspect of their academic career.

When implementing any new tool or educational theory always try to think through 5 simple steps; “in depth planning, proper preparation, implementation, evaluation”, and personal reflection; as it relates to the group you are currently teaching.
