About This Book
ScopeThis manual provides a guide for installing or updating the ABB Power Generation
Portal (referred to as Power Generation Portal in this manual) basic software. It is
not intended to provide support for specific application software.
Intended UserThis manual is for application engineers who are responsible for configuring and
maintaining these applications. This book is not the sole source of instruction for
this functionality. See Related Documentationon page 9to find other documents
about this subject.
Document StructureThis manual contains two major sections:
The first section is explains the installation procedure.
The second section introduces additional procedures:
Automatic login to the operating system.
Automatic start-up at boot time.
Access restrictions to the users.

Document Conventions
The following conventions are used for the presentation of material:
The words in names of screen elements (for example, the title in the title bar of
a window, the label for a field of a dialog box) are initially capitalized.
Capital letters are used for the name of a keyboard key if it is labeled on the
keyboard. For example, press the ENTER key.
Lowercase letters are used for the name of a keyboard key that is not labeled on
the keyboard. For example, the space bar, comma key, and so on.
Electrical warning indicates the presence of a hazard which could result in
electrical shock.
Warning indicates the presence of a hazard which could result inpersonal injury.
Caution indicates important information or warning related to the concept
discussed in the text. It might indicate the presence of a hazard which could result
in corruption of software or damage to equipment/property.
Information alerts the reader to pertinent facts and conditions.
Tip indicates advice on, for example, how to design your project or how to use a
certain function.

Press CTRL+C indicates that you must hold down the CTRLkey while
pressing the C key (to copy a selected object in this case).
Press ESC E C indicates that you press and release each key in sequence (to

Section 1 Installation
OverviewThe Power Generation Portal (PGP) monitors and provides operator aids for
industrial or utility process management.
It consists of hardware and software that performs these functions:
Read engineering unit signals or digital signals, using:
Standard ABB control modules, such as SYMPHONY/Harmony orMelody, AC800F, AC800M, AC870P, PROCONTROL P13/P14.
Other foreign modules for data acquisition using dedicated drivers or the
OPC standard.
Communicate process data (via color graphic screens or reports) to operators,
engineering and technical personnel.
Provides historical archiving and data retrieval utilities.
Provides an operator interface for control actions.
Provides on-line modification capabilities for process parameters, as well as
display or reports presentation formats.

Prerequisites Section 1 Installation

Power Generation Portal interfaces to the Control and Acquisition modules to
perform the following functions:
Signal conditioning
Data acquisition
Analog to digital conversion
Conversion to engineering units
Time tagging
Primary alarming.
The Harmony communication system transmits data to the computer by an
exception report method especially designed to increase the system throughput.
The system runs on industry standard Personal Computers.
Power Generation Portal replaces a former product, which was namedABBIndustrialITfor Plant Management (Tenore). The older product will be referred in
this document simply as Tenore.
Prerequisites
Operating System
Power Generation Portal must be installed on a Personal or Server Computer
running the Microsoft Operating System:
Windows XP Professional, version 2002. Service pack 1 and 2
Windows 2003 Standard Edition Service pack 2
Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Service pack 2
Disk Space
Power Generation Portal must be installed on a disk with a minimum of 350 MB
free space. The actual disk space you need, however, may be greater. A large
amount of disk space can be consumed by the historical features defined during the
later Power Generation Portal setup phase.

Please note that Power Generation Portal must be installed on a local disk. Do not
install Power Generation Portal on a network disk.
Other PackagesThe Power Generation Portal setup kit includes some external packages needed for
the Power Generation Portal features (semAPI for interfacing Harmony, Loox for
managing the graphics).

DOTNETFX.EXE - Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 package
DOTNETFX 2.0.EXE - Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 package
Sentinel Protection Installer 7.1.0.exe
Drive for the Sentinel licence key. Install only if needed.
Power Generation Portal relies on Microsoft Excel for report generation. Microsoft
Excel is not included in the installation kit of Power Generation Portal and must be
purchased, installed and licensed separately.
Power Generation Portal supports Microsoft Excel 97, Microsoft Excel 2003 and
Microsoft Excel XP.
All documentation is supplied in AdobeAcrobatreader (.PDF) format. You candownload and install a free copy of the Adobe Reader directly from the Adobe site:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
It is strongly suggested that the disk on which Power Generation Portal will beloaded is formatted with NTFS File System (not FAT).
The following packages are included with the Power Generation PortalCD. They
must be installed on the system beforePower Generation Portal is installed:

UsersPower Generation Portal can be activated from any Windows-user who is a member
of either the Administrators group or the Power Users group. In this manual we will
refer to this user as the Administrator.
Power Generation Portal provides some feature to lock access to the Windows
environment, thus restricting the usage of Windows functions according the Power
Generation Portal users policy. The methods to lock the access to Windows is
described into thePower Generation Portal Configuration Manual.
Settings
This sections lists some settings to do the first time the target computer starts-up.
Power Generation Portal does not require these settings to operate, however they are
strongly recommended.These settings are grouped together in this section, but they can be performed at any
time. Unless specifically stated, settings can be done from any user and for any user.
Date and Time Settings.
If the date and/or time settings are not correct set them using the Date/Time utility.
In the Control Panel, click the Date/Time icon.
Set the proper day, month, year and time. Also select the your local time zone.
Regional Settings.
Power Generation Portal relies on the regional settings of the Operating System for
various user interface features, such as the default language or the date and time
formatting. You need to make sure that these settings are correct.
In the Control Panel, click the Regional Options icon.
Make sure that you Locale (location) and the language settings correspond to your
country. Also make sure that Time and Date formatting are properly set. Avoid
using the AM/PM format for the time presentation.

Security Settings.
Power Generation Portal when used in a Client-Server environment and/or in an
architecture which use the PGP networking (PGP to PGP communication) the
following set of the Security options (located into the Windows Local Security
Settings) listed below should be done for the default PGP installation settings:
Network access:Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users: Enabled
Network access:Sharing and security model for local accounts: Classic
CD Organization
Power Generation Portal is issued on a CD with a standard IndustrialIT folder
structure. The CD contains the personal computer versions of the product and some
additional utilities.
You need to locate the folder on the CD for the specific application that you wish to
install.
The CD has a common root folder named ABB Power Generation Portal.
In this folder you will find the PGP (for example 3.1) folder for the
original issue of a version, or the PGP sp X (where X may be 1, 2, ...)
folder for the service pack X.
The common root ABB Power Generation Portal contains the following sub-
folders:
External Kit
Include installation kits for products or components.
PGP.4.x
Contains the setup procedure for the product.

Installation Procedure
Follow the steps below to install Power Generation Portal. These steps must be
followed in the correct sequence in order to perform a complete installation.
Single step(s) may be performed on an existing installation to update portions of the
system. For example, the installation of a new version of Power Generation Portal
does not require re-installation of any other packages unless you are specifically
instructed to do so in the release notes or in the uninstall procedure.
Restarting the Computer
After one or more uninstall procedures are performed you should restart the
computer before proceeding to the installation procedures.
If a new Power Generation Portal version will be installed on a previous version,
you should also restart the computer.Turn off the automatic start-up option in order to prevent Power Generation Portal
from automatically starting when the system restarts.
For upgrades of very old Tenore releases contact ABB support.

Installing Power Generation PortalThis is the core installation of Power Generation Portal.
1. Log on as Administrator.
2. Use Windows Explorer to locate the Power Generation Portal distribution kit
folders.
3. On the taskbar click Start > Run, and then click the Browsebutton.
4. Select the ABBPower Generation Portal folder and then select thePower
Generation Portal folder.
5. Run the Setup.exeprogram to install Power Generation Portal.
A series of questions allow you to customize the installed package. In most
cases the suggested default answer is valid.
Note that when Power Generation Portal is installed over an already existinginstallation, some questions are skipped. The settings from the previous
installation procedure are retained.
6. Select the desired path for the files.
Note that according to the ABB Industrial IT policy a default path is provided:
C:\Program Files\ABB Industrial IT\Power Generation Portal. You can
change this path according to your needs.
7. Select the Setup Type.
Use this option to specify the portions of the system to be installed. This allows
you to tailor your system. The selections are:

Base
All the components to support the main features of Power Generation Portalfor
boththe Client and Server environment will be installed. All the executable
files, basic configuration files and basic environment settings for the Power
Generation Portalare installed.
Support for API.
This option installs the libraries for developing Application Programs.

Web Extensions.
This option installs the Web pages and the environment settings necessary to
develop WEB sites based on Power Generation Portal.
Support for Harmony INFI.
This option installs the displays and faceplates for controlling equipment
connected via the Harmony INFI.
Support. for AC800F
This option installs the displays and faceplates for controlling equipment
connected via the AC800F.
Support for AC800M.
This option installs the displays and faceplates for controlling equipment
connected via the AC800M.
Support for AC870P.
This option installs the displays and faceplates for controlling equipment
connected via the AC870P.
Support for PROCONTROL P13/P14.
This option installs the displays and faceplates for controlling equipment
connected via the PROCONTROL P13/P14.
Note that although all features are installed with the Base option you will be
required to activate licenses for certain features. Other features must be enabled in
the configuration settings performed later.

Restart the Computer
The final step for the installation procedure is to specify either an immediate or
delayed restart of the computer. You can delay the Restart if any other package,
is going to be installed, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Post Installation Procedure.
After you restart the computer the installation procedure starts a post-
installation program which automatically performs some necessary actions for
set up. Actions include: The registration of servers and DLLs.
If the Power Generation Portalis installed for the first time on the PC the
procedure will build an empty Power Generation Portal Database.
In the figure below there is an example of post installation action:

License
1. Log on as Administrator.
If the authorization license is available, proceed to register it. Otherwise,
follow the next step to obtain the authorization license.
2. Retrieve License Information
a. Select Start>Programs> ABB Industrial IT>Power Generation
Portal > System Setup.
b. Expand the Client and Server folder, and then select License Entry to viewa list of Available Ids.
c. Report the displayed information (Machine ID) together with all other
license information required to ABB Energy Automation. They will
provide a valid software key.
d. Click the Exitbutton to exit System Setup.
The following license registration procedure must only be performed on systems
that are configured as Servers, or client and Servers. Do not perform this
procedure on client systems.
The following steps can be performed only if ABB Energy Automation issued a
valid Power Generation Portal license.
However, Power Generation Portal can run 15 days without a registered license.
You can use this period to obtain a valid authorization license.

3. Register the Power Generation Portal license.
a. Select Start>Programs> ABB Industrial IT>Power Generation
Portal > System Setup.
b. Select the License Entry item from the option tree, and then select Basic
Features.
c. Fill in the relevant fields (including the software key) accord to the license
certificate, or select Add from Fileif you have a file containing this
information.
d. Click the Validatebutton. A message will indicate if the validation was
successful.
e. Review the data if the license does not validate.
f. Click the Savebutton when everything is correct.
g. Press the Test Checkoutbutton to verify the license against the currentMachine ID.
h. Repeat the previous steps Driversand Applications license groups.
i. Exit the License Entry program by clicking the Exitbutton.

Install the Sentinel Protection Installer driver by double-clicking the
corresponding executable files provided in the PGP CD.
The files are located in the External Kit folder.

Section 3 Post Installation
OverviewThe previous sections covered all steps to fully complete a Power Generation Portal
installation, and also to obtain an operational environment.
While most of the installation actions are performed automatically , it may be
necessary to perform a few additional steps to accommodate system configuration
requirement, and to build or upgrade data structures.
Before to proceeding, carefully read the file README.TXT for any last minute
changes in the installation procedure. This file is located in the Power Generation
Portal \tempfolder. If Power Generation Portal was installed in the default location,
the complete path is C:\Program Files\ABB Industrial IT\Power Generation
Portal\temp).
Client/Server Environment ConfigurationTypically, Power Generation Portal operates in a distributed environment, in which
the server and the clients run on separate machines, although the server itself may
also operate as client. The default installation automatically preset the system for a
client and server running on the same machine. The steps below describe how to
configure the proper client/server environment.
1. Log on as Administrator.
2. Select Start>Programs> ABB Industrial IT>Power Generation Portal >
System Setup.
3. Expand the Client/Serverfolder, and then select Client/Server.

A Server must be identified using the full computer name. The name of a
server can be retrieved from Control Panel:
In Control Panel, open System. Select the Network Identification tab to
view the Full Computer Name.
System Setup will also show the current Full Computer Name as the
default server.4. Designate how the computer will operate in the client/server environment:
a. If the computer will operate as a client select the Client Only option.
b. If the computer will operate as a pure server select the Server Only option.
c. If the computer will operate as a server and client select the Client and
Server option.

5. Define the name of the server(s) in the List of Servers.
Click a line to enter a server name. The default server is the computer itself.
6. Click OKto finish the procedure.
To change the server node name:
1. Temporarily select the Client Only option.
2. Set the new server name.
3. Select either the Server Only option or the Client and Server option.
General SetupMany of the actions required for the setup of Power Generation Portal have been
automated and collected into a General Setup phase.
TheGeneral Setupphase is part of the Post Installation procedure which is
automatically started after the Power Generation Portal installation. However it can
be also manually started after every installation or upgrade of Power Generation
Portal.
1. Log on as Administrator.
2. Select Start>Programs> ABB Industrial IT>Power Generation Portal >
System Setup.
3. Activate the General Setup action.
4. Expand the Client/Serverfolder, and then select General Setup.
If Power Generation Portal was installed before the network was configured, you
need to change the node name on the server computer.

The program will display an list of options for Client/Server configuration and
previous Power Generation Portal installations. The suggested defaults will work in
all situations.
Unregister DLLs - this option will unregister all Power Generation Portal
DLLs, cleaning up any previous installations.
Register DLLs - this option will register all Power Generation Portal DLLs and
servers.
Unregister Drivers - this option will unregister all Power Generation Portal
Drivers, cleaning up any previous installation.
Register Drivers - this option will register all Power Generation Portal Drivers.
This is generally used for interfacing external acquisition devices.

Setup Window User - this option will set up some privileges and characteristics
for the Power Generation Portal Windows user. These setting are applied to theuser which is currently running the procedure. This procedure must be repeated
for any additional user.
Check File System - this option will check the Power Generation Portal
internal file configuration, performing any adaptation which may be necessary
when upgrading previous installations.
Check Registry - this action will check the Windows registry, performing anychanges that may be required when upgrading from previous installations.
5. Click the GObutton to save the new settings.
C-NET Interface (semAPI) Configuration
The C-NET Interface package (semAPI) provides the communication between the
C-NET and Power Generation Portal.
See the Client/Server Environment Configurationon page 21for details on clients
and servers.
1. Log-in as Administrator.
2. Use Windows Explorer to locate the Power Generation Portal distribution kit
folders.
3. On the taskbar click Start > Run. Click the Browsebutton.
You must click the GObutton for any changes to take effect.
The instructions described below must be followed only if a Symphony system is
connected with Power Generation Portal.
The C-NET interface configuration must be performed on the server(s) only.
This includes systems configured as Server Only and Client and Server. The
server is the computer physically connected to the C-NET.

4. Select the ABB Industrial IT folder and then select thePower Generation
Portalfolder.
The C-NET Interface setup program is located in the folder:
Power Generation Portal\semAPI\Exe\Winnt
If the package has been installed at default location, the complete path is:
C:\ Program Files\ABB Industrial IT\Power Generation
Portal\semAPI\Exe\Winnt).5. Configure C-NET Interface package.
a. Run (double-click) the iciconfu.exeprogram.
b. Set Physical ICI Device to desired serial or SCSI port.
c. Set the communication speed accord to the ICI speed set up
d. Set the Network Communication Protocol to TCP/IP (default) if thecomputer is equipped with a network interface. If TCP/IP is not installed,
set the Network Communication Protocol to LOCAL.
e. Click the Savebutton. A message will indicate if the procedure was
successful.
f. Click the Quitbutton.
If Power Generation Portal has been installed before the network was configured,
you will need to change the node name using this procedure.

Section 4 Building Data Files
After the Power Generation Portal distribution kit has been installed, all local datafiles must be either:
Generated and compiled for new installations.
Upgraded for existing installations.
See the Client/Server Environment Configurationon page 21for details on Client
and Servers.
Local data files are usually not shipped with the distribution kit. You need to build
the local data files using the following database build procedure.
The kit provides configuration files the you can customize based on your specific
requirements. These configuration files effect how the database build procedure
creates local data files. You can either:
Customize the configuration files and then perform a database build.
Perform a database build using the default configuration files.
At least one database build must be completed in order to run Power Generation
Portal properly.
Only perform this procedure if the computer will operate as a Server (Server
Only or Client and Server).
Only perform this procedure when Power Generation Portalis first installed, or
when a complete cleanup of the data file is required.

Refer to the System Configuration and Configuration Procedure sections of the
InformITPower Generation Portal Configuration Manualfor complete informationon configuration.
1. Log-in as Administrator.
2. Select Start>Programs> ABB Industrial IT>Power Generation Portal >
System Setup.
3. Expand the Build Database folder, and then select Build All.
All system builders will be executed in sequence. Wait for a message indicating
that system generation has completed.
In the procedure below all system builders are activated. They will process all
input data files in the configuration folders. Be sure that all your input data files
are properly set, and that temporary or test input files are not stored in the
configuration folders.

Section 5 Removal Procedures
OverviewFollow the steps below to remove applications related to Power Generation Portal.
You should follow these steps in the correct sequence in order to perform a
complete removal. However single steps may be performed on an existing
installation to remove specific portions of the application.
As a general rule, you do not need to remove all packages before installing a new
version. A new version of Power Generation Portal can be installed withoutremoving the previous version.
As a general rule, you are also not required to re-install any other packages.
Refer to the detailed information below to determine the requirements for each
package.
Removing Tenore
Use Task Manager to list all running processes. If the DEVICE.EXE process is
active, then terminate it. The Tenore shutdown procedure does not end this task.
Also find and terminate any process with Tenore in the name.
After stopping Tenore processes follow these steps to remove the application.
1. Log-in as Administrator.
2. Open Control Panel: Start > Settings > Control Panel.
3. In Control Panel double-click Add/Remove Programs.
4. Select Tenore applications from the list of software:
Before proceeding make sure that all Tenore processes are stopped.

5. Follow the instructions to remove these applications.
Removing Power Generation Portal
Follow this procedure to remove Power Generation Portal.

active, then terminate it. The Power Generation Portal shutdown procedure does not
end this task. Also find and terminate any Power Generation Portal processes.
After stopping Power Generation Portal processes follow these steps to remove the
application.
