OUR TOPIC

“Southwood felt that one panel interview was not sufficient as a

selection method”?

South Woods Problem

• South wood School experienced increased employee(Teachers) turnover, and as a result, a higher level of recruitment & selection activity.

WHAT IS PANEL INTERVIEW?

• Gathering of all concerns of hiring position• A committee to interview a candidate

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PANEL INTERVIEW & MASS INTERVIEW

A panel interview includes a committee interview and one interviewee.

ButIn mass interview, there are many interviewers

and several candidates as well.

PARTICIPANTS OF PANEL

Normally a panel consists of:A- HR ManagerB- Line ManagerC- Department HeadD- Senior Manager

CONDITIONS OF PANEL INTERVIEW

• Leader and supporting members• Size of the panel• Everyone must participate• Trained Members

ADVANTAGES OF PANEL INTERVIEW

• More Objective or less personal interaction• More time to think• Tool to judge personality traits• Time saving• More accuracy & consistency • Support weaker interviewers

Southwood’s Mistakes

1- Absence of HR personnel in 1st interview2- Lack of coordination among the panel members 3- The interview was unstructured4- One’s decision is final & irrevocable 5- No demonstration classes 6- Untrained staff

Other Solutions

• Training should be provided on an annual basis for staff members who may be involved in selection

• Candidate should fill a pre-interview form and questionnaire form.

AND

Other Solutions

• Coordination among panel members• Presence of HR personnel in all interviews• The suggestions of other members should be

taken on board• Structured interview• Demonstration classes

“IT’S NOT NECESSARY THAT EVERY HIGHLY QUALIFIED PERSON IS A GOOD TEACHER; BUT IT IS NECESSARY THAT EVERY TEACHER

SHOULD BE QUALIFIED”

WHY DEMO IS IMPORTANT?

Demonstration classes enabled the audience (senior teacher or students) to assess the following knowledge and skills:1- Relationship with students.2- Delivery style.3- Innovation in teaching methods.4- Communication skills.5- Subject knowledge.6- Ability to engage students.

CONCLUSION

PROBLEM SOLUTION1- Lack of coordination A compulsory meeting of panel members

before interview

2- No HR nomination One HR personnel should be there in each interview

3- Only panel can not identify the teaching style of candidate

Demonstration classes

4- Untrained staff Training of staff members with HR perspective

5- One man show (principal is authority to select)

Democratic style (majority will decide)
