Hymn: TiS 134
1. Praise, my soul, the king of heaven;
to his feet your tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me his praise should sing?
Praise him, praise him, hallelujah,
praise the everlasting king!
2. Praise him for his grace and favour
to his people in distress;
praise him still the same for ever,
slow to chide, and swift to bless:
praise him, praise him, hallelujah,
glorious in his faithfulness!
3. Father-like he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes:
praise him, praise him, hallelujah,
widely as his mercy flows!
4. Frail as summer’s flower we flourish,
blows the wind and it is gone;
but while mortals rise and perish
God endures unchanging on.
Praise him, praise him, hallelujah,
praise the high eternal one!
5. Angels, help us to adore him,
you behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space:
praise him, praise him, hallelujah,
praise with us the God of grace! Harmony © C. L. Fouvy

Greeting: The Lord be with you.
AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)
Sentence: I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God
over one sinner who repents. Luke 15.10
Prayer of Preparation:
As we gather as God's people let us pray together:
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
4
The Summary of the Commandments:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your
mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first
commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as
yourself.’
Kyrie eleison (How Setting)
5
The Confession
Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's
forgiveness.
Merciful God, our maker and our judge,
we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
and in what we have failed to do:
we have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;
we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.
Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you
in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Absolution (Celebrant)
Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to
him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins,
strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day
Undaunted you seek the lost, O God, exultant you bring home the found:
touch our hearts with grateful wonder at the tenderness of your
forbearing love; grant us delight in the mercy that has found us; and
bring all to rejoice at the feast of forgiven sinners. We ask this through
our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD
Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)
First Reading: Jeremiah 4.11-12, 22-28
11
At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem: A hot wind
comes from me out of the bare heights in the desert towards my poor
people, not to winnow or cleanse— 12
a wind too strong for that. Now it is I
who speak in judgement against them. 22
‘For my people are foolish, they do not know me; they are stupid children,
they have no understanding.
They are skilled in doing evil, but do not know how to do good.’ 23
I looked on the earth, and lo, it was waste and void; and to the heavens,
and they had no light. 24
I looked on the mountains, and lo, they were quaking, and all the hills
moved to and fro. 25
I looked, and lo, there was no one at all, and all the birds of the air had
fled. 26
I looked, and lo, the fruitful land was a desert, and all its cities were laid in
ruins before the Lord, before his fierce anger. 27
For thus says the Lord: The whole land shall be a desolation; yet I will not
make a full end. 28
Because of this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above grow black;
for I have spoken, I have purposed; I have not relented nor will I turn back.
Response: Hear the word of the Lord,
THANKS BE TO GOD
9
Psalm 14
1 Fools have said in their hearts ‘There is no God’:
they have all become vile and abominable in their doings,
there is not one that does good.
2 The Lord looked down from heaven
upon the children of Adam:
to see if there were any who would act wisely
and seek after God.
3 But they have all turned out of the way,
they have all alike become corrupt:
there is none that does good, no not one.
4 Are all the evildoers devoid of understanding:
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not pray to the Lord?
5 They shall be struck with terror:
for God is with the company of the righteous.
6 Though they frustrate the poor in their hopes:
surely the Lord is their refuge.
7 O that deliverance for Israel might come forth
from Zion:
when the Lord turns again the fortunes of his people,
then shall Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.
10
Second Reading: 1 Timothy 1.12-19a
12
I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because
he judged me faithful and appointed me to his service, 13
even though I was
formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a man of violence. But I received
mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14
and the grace of our Lord
overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15
The
saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners—of whom I am the foremost. 16
But for that very
reason I received mercy, so that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might
display the utmost patience, making me an example to those who would
come to believe in him for eternal life. 17
To the King of the ages, immortal,
invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 18
I am
giving you these instructions, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the
prophecies made earlier about you, so that by following them you may fight
the good fight, 19
having faith and a good conscience. By rejecting
conscience, certain persons have suffered shipwreck in the faith.
Response: Hear the word of the Lord,
THANKS BE TO GOD
11
Gradual Hymn: TiS 101
1. Come, you people, come adore him
God in Holy Trinity,
God the Father, Son and Spirit,
ever blessèd unity.
2. All your glory, God almighty,
to the Son and Spirit given,
ere upon the world’s creation
dawned the newborn light of heaven:
3. holy, holy, we adore you
one in power, in nature one;
God the Father, God the Spirit,
God the co-eternal Son.
4. By your Son the wide creation
rose where chaos held its sway;
by the Spirit, God Almighty
swept eternal night away.
5. Son, the Father’s love revealing,
Son, through whom the Spirit came,
blessed Godhead, endless glory
be to your exalted name!

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we
greet our Lord who is present in His Holy Word.
The Lord be with you
AND ALSO WITH YOU
The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 15
beginning at the 1st
verse.
GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.
1 Now all the tax-collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to
him. 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, ‘This
fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ 3 So he told them this
parable: 4 ‘Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of
them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one
that is lost until he finds it? 5 When he has found it, he lays it on his
shoulders and rejoices. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his
friends and neighbours, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found
my sheep that was lost.” 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven
over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who
need no repentance. 8 ‘Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses
one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully
until she finds it? 9 When she has found it, she calls together her friends and
neighbours, saying, “Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had
lost.” 10
Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.’
Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,
PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

The Nicene Creed
Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
14

THE GREETING OF PEACE (all stand)
{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ.
His Spirit is with us.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
Offertory Hymn: TiS 233
1. I will sing the wondrous story
of the Christ who died for me,
how he left the realms of glory
for the cross on Calvary.
Yes, I’ll sing the wondrous story
of the Christ who died for me,
sing it with his saints in glory,
gathered by the crystal sea.
2. I was lost: but Jesus found me,
found the sheep that went astray,
raised me up and gently led me
back into the narrow way.
3. Faint was I, and fears possessed me,
bruised was I from many a fall,
hope was gone, and shame distressed
me:
but his love has pardoned all.
4. Days of darkness still may meet me,
sorrow’s paths I oft may tread;
but his presence still is with me,
by his guiding hand I’m led.
5. He will keep me till the river
rolls its waters at my feet:
then he’ll bear me safely over,
where the loved ones I shall meet.

to live and work to your praise and glory. AMEN
19
Final Hymn: TiS 158
1. God has spoken by his prophets,
spoken his unchanging word,
each, from age to age proclaiming
God, the one, the righteous Lord.
In the world’s despair and turmoil
one firm anchor holds us fast:
God is king, his throne eternal,
God the first, and God the last.
2. God has spoken by Christ Jesus,
Christ, the everlasting Son,
brightness of the Father’s glory,
with the Father ever one;
spoken by the Word incarnate,
God from God, ere time began,
Light from Light, to earth descending,
God, revealed as Son of Man.
3. God is speaking by his Spirit,
speaking to our hearts again,
in the age-long word expounding
God’s own message, now as then,
through the rise and fall of nations
one sure faith yet standing fast;
God still speaks, his word unchanging,
God the first, and God the last.

Parish Meeting: to provide an update on the proposed building project will
be held at 11am on Sunday 29th September after a shortened service. A
number of issues have arisen from Diocesan decisions that require a

wonderfully served the church over many years by making delicious
Christmas cakes and puddings have now retired. Our gratitude for their

please talk to the vicar. Many will need to source their cakes elsewhere if a
new group isn’t formed.
