Many people promote products and services without a website, through:

Facebook fan pages Free blogs Squidoo lens Hubpages or in many other ways

But by far the easiest way to get started online is with your own

WordPress website

Your website doesn’t need to be a graphic masterpiece or anything special, but the fact that you have your own website will make a

difference in the eyes of your visitors

Today it’s possible to have a professional looking website for free, thanks to

WordPress and their free blog platform

Here is an example blog (actually, my dog Holly’s blog!)

Keep watching on for how to set up a WordPress site (or blog)…..

Here are 6 steps to setting up your own WordPress blog

Step 1:

Register a Domain Name

The first step towards having your own website is to register your own domain name

Your domain name is your website address or “url” and begins http://

It’s the unique address of your website on the Internet

For example, http://womenswaytowealth.com is my

domain name for Women’s Way To Wealth

Domain names contain two parts -

the actual name of your website (or keyword you are going for) +

extension (.com, .net, .org and so on)

For example, google.com is a domain name

This domain name consist of actual name (Google) and extension (.com)

Now, you can find domain names like google.fr, google.co.uk and so on which are country

specific but I would only use those if your site is country specific

For example, I have a property/real estate site which is only for UK investors so that’s

a “.co.uk” domain

Otherwise stick with “.com” which is a global domain

To find and register domain names I recommend GoDaddy

(BTW, they have a 30% off sale at the moment)

Step 2:

Get A Web Hosting Package

Web hosting is a service that stores the files for your website and makes them

available on the Internet

In general, when you are purchasing a web hosting service, you are actually

purchasing a place on web server where your website’s files will be hosted

Those web servers are constantly connected to the Internet, differently than

how our computers are connected, and that allows them to make your website

visible to any visitor at any time

Without a web hosting, your website wouldn’t be available on the Internet

My preferred web hosting service is Hostgator

It’s cost-effective (from $4.95 per month) and they have amazing customer service

Step 3:

Install WordPress

In this step you will see how easy and quick it is to get your new website online

The only thing you need to do is to install WordPress, which can be done pretty quickly

through the cPanel of your web hosting account using the Fantastico smiley face icon

Install WordPress to the root of your website, since that’s the most common choice

That means your WordPress based website will be available when someone visits your

main website address – for example, www.your-website.com

The only thing that you need to do is to enter all other information, like:

Admin email Blog title (name of your website) your First and Last name

just for the purpose of creating your user account in your new WordPress installation

When you are done click “Install Now” and in less than 5 seconds WordPress will be

installed and your new website will be live and available on the Internet

Step 4:

Install WordPress Plugins

Plugins are used to extend functionality, capabilities and the look of your WordPress

based website

They are the apps for WordPress

There are thousands of plugins you can install and use on your website

Literally there is a plugin for anything than can come to your mind, or for anything you

can possibly need to add to your website

You can find plugins for:

search engine optimization (SEO) back-linking adding images ratings adding additional features to

your website

navigation organization schedule subscriptions and much more…

Also, keep in mind that there are free and paid plugins

Some additions to websites are “exclusive”, or some premium plugins can do more job done than free plugins, which is the main

reason why they are paid plugins

Step 5:

Add Content To Your Website

When you want to add content to your website, simply go to

“Posts” -> “Add new” to add new blog post, or to “Pages” -> “Add new” to add a new page

Pages appear on the navigation bar and are static (such as “About”, “Contact”, “Training”)

Posts are usually blog posts and appear in chronological order as you blog

Step 6:

Ping Your New Website

Pinging is one good way to inform search engines about changes, updates and

additions on your website

By sending a ping you are actually sending an invitation to search engines to visit your website

and index all the changes you have made

Therefore, you should send pings to pinging services each time you make some

changes on your website

I recommend using Pingomatic
