How to Encrypt with 7-Zip
1. Navigate to the document or folder you wish to encrypt:
2. Right-click the document, move the mouse over to the 7-zip option, and then click “add
to archive”:
3. On the following menu, set the encryption method to AES-256, and the archive format
to Zip. Then, enter and confirm a strong passphrase (remember to never disclose the archive passphrase over email, and instead call):
Once “OK” has been clicked, the document/folder will be compressed and encrypted.
4. To decrypt the document/folder, simply right-click the archive, roll over the 7-Zip option, and click “extract files”:
Then, input the password that was used to encrypt the document/folder:
Once “OK” is clicked, the document will be decompressed and decrypted into a new folder. The original encrypted Zip will stay compressed and encrypted.
