An organized collection of thoughts that can be permanently displayed

Allows others to join in conversation on the selected topic

4 Types of Writing Styles

Expository - subject oriented, equipped with facts, logical order

Descriptive - describes a character, place, or event in great detail

Persuasive - includes the authors ideas, justifications, and biases

Narrative - tells a story

Writing Environment

Free from distractions

Well lit room

Comfortable chair

Writing surface with lots of workspace

PlanningDecide on a topic

Brainstorm ideas

Determine 3 to 4 main points that support the topic.

Include 2 or 3 things to say about each of the main points. Include detailed explanations about the point or ask yourself: who, what, when, where, how, or why your main point is important.

Stay organized! You will want to refer back to your planning when writing your paper.

Body Paragraph III

Conclusion

Introduction

Your first sentence should grab the attention of the reader

Begin instructing the reader what they will be reading about

Your last sentence should be your thesis statement. It is a one-sentence, summary or conclusion of what the paper will be about.

Body ParagraphsEach Body Paragraph lists or describes one point that supports the thesis statement and should be at least 3-4 sentences long

Body paragraphs should start by introducing a point

Next, specifically state the point you wish to make.

Then support your point with further explanation. A good supportive body paragraph answers who, what, when, where, how, or why?

Conclusion

The conclusion should start with a restating of the thesis statement.

Next, review your supporting thesis statement ideas. These should be 1-2 sentences each and derive from the body paragraphs.

End with a broad, general statement of why the paper is relative and important.
